I cut caffeinne out during pregnancy. Once I tried a little when LO came and def noticed a affect on her. I think her system was just not used to it! Now that she's a little older I started slowly reintroducing decaf. Now I'm up to one cup of decaf a day and she's doing fine.

I have not limited myself as well. The lactation consultant in the hospital said 20oz was fine and all depends on the baby. My LO has not shown any changes. I usually have 2 cups a day. When I have soda I have caffeine free so it doesn't interfere with my coffee.

Our pediatrician in the hospital told us that he doesn't like telling nursing moms to prevent any food or drink until they notice it affecting the baby. Since my only real concern was caffeine, he said to go ahead with my then normal 2 caffeine drinks a day (morning and afternoon) and only cut back if baby seemed jittery. Since LMW has never had problems falling asleep (she only has problems STAYING asleep) I haven't cut down. Actually now as a working mom of 2 I have a coffee in the morning and several caffeinated sodas throughout the day. I do try to wait until after pumping (exclusive pumper here) to have a big caffeine hit.

I am so sad to be posting here because I think my girl has a caffeine problem :( My first baby had no apparent issues but today I had a lovely Starbucks cherry mocha at the mall an a short time afterward my baby was vomiting in Le Sportsac. Oopsie! I also had one other time when I wondered if caffeine was making her spit up. So I guess I'd better cut it out for now :( sad!!

I have a cup of coffee every morning, with no ill effects. I try to do a morning nurse first before having the coffee though. I try not to have caffeine after 3 pm or so, just to be extra careful since I don't want him bouncing off the walls all night. From time to time, I have had soda at dinner and not had any problems either.

I would kill for some coffee! Unfortunately caffeine makes me jittery and hurts my stomach so none for me--even decaf has too much caffeine for me. I have chai tea sometimes, but it's such a small amount of caffeine (doesn't affect me) so I know it's probably not affecting LO either.

I worked at a coffee place the entire time I was pregnant & drank 2-4 cups a shift. Then I got addicted to iced coffees - at my worst I was drinking 6-7 a day - now I try to keep it to 2-3.....I don't think I've noticed any difference, but I've ALWAYS drank at least 1, so I don't really have a basis to compare too.

I wasn't a big soda/coffee drinker before getting pregnant. Before baby, I used to drink it occasionally and I do the same now. I try to only have a small cup of coffee on the weekends & none during the week. Soda is always a special treat (going out for dinner or a fountain drink from Costco), so I have it rarely.

I thought maybe it had an adverse affect on LO, but he was so little (like 4 weeks) that I think it was more from being an unpredictable newborn. Now when I have some (8 weeks) he doesn't show any changes.

I drank a cup of coffee a day while pregnant and my OB felt that. 1-2 servings of caffeine a day while breastfeeding was ok. I have been keeping it to 1/2 to 1 serving a day.

Did/do you currently drink caffeine while breastfeeding? If so, do you notice any negative side effects?
