@Anagram: @ShootingStar: hahaha OMG that always makes me laugh- my kid is absolutely not allowed to eat several desserts or a bunch of candy at parties. Other grownups think I'm so mean and tell me "It's just once a year!", but it's like twice a month if you count birthday parties and holidays.

My DD (2.5) has a lot of trouble with cake pops- it always falls off the stick, she bites the stick, she shoves the stick in her throat, etc... I vastly prefer cupcakes even though they are messier.

@ShootingStar: haha. At my DS's party (with 4-6 yos) every single plate had cake left on it. I think they all wanted to get back to playing!

@ShootingStar: I was going to say the same! I was surprised, because my baby (obviously) doesn't eat sweets at all at 1 year--we didn't even give her own birthday cake. And we reallllllly limit sugary foods for my 3 year old, so she doesn't like many sweets. If you give her a cupcake, she'll lick off half the frosting and leave the rest. She's not into cake at all.

BUT, at our party--all the other parents were letting their kids have whatever and *many* kids had a mini cupcake, a macaron, AND a slice of cake! And one little girl had two slices of cake because she insisted on one from the pink cake and one from the purple.

Meanwhile, I gave my 3 year old a piece of her birthday cake, and she refused to taste it and instead and about 45 blueberries.

@Pancakes: Falling off after a bite is immediately what i thought of also, so I voted for cupcakes.

@lamariniere: LOL the last birthday party we went a whole table of 2-5 year olds devoured their cupcakes the instant the candles were blown out. Then my son melted down when I wouldn't let him have another one because he wanted a different color frosting :silly: .

Cake pops or minis. It seems to me that most little kids won't finish a cupcake or a big slice of cake.

I voted for cake pops, but like the donut pops idea mentioned.

I can't count the number of times my DD has taken a bite of her cake pop and the whole thing has fallen off the stick onto the floor (it could be just her...). I like @Ms. RV 's idea of donut holes on a stick!

Does the local donut place also do donut holes? Instead of cake pops, could you put donut holes on a stick and have donut pops?

@sorrycharlie: Can you do all of the above? haha. I sometimes go overboard, but we just did my girls' birthday party last weekend and several sweets (along with real food, which was at another table).

I voted for cupcakes, but I actually think you should just do donuts for everyone because donuts are superior to every other treat.

Agree - cake pops or mini cupcakes. I'm all for smaller treats that look "complete", if that makes sense!

First world problems, I know.

My daughter's 4th birthday party is early September. We are likely doing a donut cake (it's a specialty at a local donut place - to die for).

To go with - should I do cupcakes or cake pops?
Or a small cake?

It's a tangled (Rapunzel) theme!
