@mrskc: Well, I'm sure it depends on the appearance etc etc... but when we were looking at an adoption situation with a similar issue, we requested a fetal echo.

I had this too but all other tests pointed to a low probability of Downs. LO is 9 weeks and perfectly normal.

@Mrs. Jacks: I wonder why my doc didn't say anything about a echo??? I'm going to have to ask at my next appointment.

Usually fetuses with an intracardiac focus are referred for fetal echo later in pregnancy... but i suppose if yours is resolved, you don't need to do that!

Yeah, I was told my baby's heart had a calcium deposit too. I had already done the blood work and our chance for downs was very small. My doc didn't seem concerned at all. They didn't even mention doing a follow up scan, so I haven't been worried about it.

So glad all is ok with your LO!

We had this too (along with two other soft markers) and I was super upset and scared about what it might mean. Our OB was great about minimizing it but we still opted to have the blood test and I'm really glad we did. I'm glad your follow up went well :)

At our anatomy scan a few weeks ago, the baby was found to have an echogenic intracardiac focus, or a calcium deposit on the heart. It can sometimes be a marker for down syndrome so it increased our chances of Down's from 1:10,000 to 1:2,500. Sometimes the deposit goes away later in the pregnancy and there's nothing to worry about.

We had a follow up appointment today, and baby girl's heart (and the rest of her body) look totally normal! So glad!
