We love our Tula for our boys. However when they were new I preferred my Ring sling for sure! I am planning on either wrapping from birth or using a ring sling. I am not a Lillebaby fan myself but SSCs fit people so different. They say it's similar to trying on jeans in my Babywearing group.

Love our Lillebaby but I didn't hear about it until she was about 3 months. We would probably still need a rolled blanket with our Ergo but doing nothing fine without it on the LB at 4 months.

@Mrs. Goose: it's not advised because it can compromise baby's breathing. It's OK while nursing though.

Has anyone wore their newborn lying down in a ring sling? With their head towards the rings? I gather that it is not a popular way to baby wear because it's harder to make sure the baby is okay.

I have a couple of Lillebabys and love them. They don't need an infant insert (can be used from 7 lbs up), and you can front carry either forward facing or inward facing, hip carry, and back carry.

I have an airflow and an embossed. I really don't need both of those, but now that I have them both, I can't figure out which I'd get rid of. My husband prefers the airflow.

Hmm okay - so maybe I'll give the ring sling a go while she's a newborn, then up to a Lilliebaby or Tula (I see people recommending both) when she gets a little bigger..?

@ShootingStar: second that video!!

Once you figure out the ring sling it's easy. Admittedly I find it easier as lo gets older but we used it pre-head control too. Now at 5 months and about 18 lbs we are using the ergo more but we still use our ring sling.

I found my beco supportive enough for the newborn stage, but if you want a cheap option the infantino worked well too. I bought it because I'm also 5'4" and thought the beco might be hard to wear while playing on the floor with LO1. I wear newborns in a ring sling by settling them on my chest so they're curled up but their backs are straight then just reefing the sling in tight.

I loved the Ergo and used it for a long time.
J hated it as a newborn (he hated swaddles and being wrapped up). We used a out-facing (Bjorn) for a short time until he was big enough to sit up in the Ergo. If I needed to buy one now, I'd get the Ergo 360 - faces both ways and is lighter than the original. If this had been around when J was small, I wouldn't have needed the Bjorn for that short time where he wouldn't tolerate facing in.
I used the Ergo until he was 2!

My friend swears by her Tula but I hate the prints.

I had a Babyhawk mei tai with DS2 and it worked well in the beginning, but when he got above 15 lbs, it wasn't supportive enough for me. I also got a Lenny Lamb wrap at that time. It worked better. But my favorite carrier by far is the Tula. I splurged and got one for DS3. I used the infant insert and carried him in it since birth. Once we were done with the insert, I sold it for $35 (it retails for $40) on a local babywearing group. We still use the Tula almost daily and he is 8 months. I could never quite get into wrapping...it's just too complicated for me and I never have the time to practice. The Tula, even with the infant insert, is so easy and comfy. I'm about 5'4" with a long torso, if that helps.

We use the beco and the ergo since birth. I prefer the beco because the straps can cross. The ergo ends up hurting my back after a while. We also just used a rolled up swaddle blanket instead of the infant insert. DS was born in July & the insert would have been way too hot.

@fussygal: it's just as long, but the fabric is much thinner so it can sit in the bottom of your diaper bag and hardly take up any space. Because it's so thin and stretchy I find it doesn't matter nearly as much if it is twisted when I put it on (though still more comfortable if I spread the shoulders out). I put on the moby after using the Solly and found it a lot more difficult to work with, even though I used the moby a ton with my older daughter.

I really like ring slings with newborns. Easy and quick ups and downs.
As far as infant inserts... I hate them. My kids never fit right so I wait until their bodies are strong enough for SSCs.

I read this recently and found it useful.

Beco Gemini can be used from birth with no insert. Loved it with my first and now with my second. The seat width is adjustable as they get bigger. However, once he got taller (somewhere between 12 and 18 months) I preferred my ergo sport and then eventually my toddler Tula.

Oh, I forgot that I have a Baby Hawk mei tai. I bought a used one when she was about 3 months and loved that it was a big structured, but still allowed me to get what felt like a custom, snug fit. I haven't been able to use it on her without cutting into her legs (again--this is likely a technique problem a pro could help me with), so I haven't used it in awhile.

I have a moby, a ring sling, a woven wrap, a mei tai, and a tula. I'm short, only 5'1, and have a baby who is small to average.

I loved the moby and mei tai for the first 8 weeks. I made my ring sling at 8 weeks, and used that far more than the moby after that. Next time, I'll use the ring sling from the start. I loved the mei tai for the newborn days. So cozy.

I started using our tula, with a rolled blanket around 10 lbs. My 6 month old is still technically under the weight limit, but fits well. We primarily use our tula right now.

I have used the Boba 4G since she was an infant. It comes with an integrated infant booster thing that takes away the need for an insert. Sometimes I have a hard time getting the fit through my shoulders right, but I would still recommend it.

I'm interested in the Solly Wrap or Happy Baby Wrap (cheaper than Solly). They both look lighter weight than the Moby. The Ktan appeals to me as well.

I sold my ring sling after a few months. Maybe if I had a pro show me some tips, I would have found it easier. But once I got her legs up and tightened the thing, she would ALWAYS spit up a large amount due to the pressure. This meant I was washing it and readjusting much more than I wanted.

@ShootingStar: is it as easy to get the baby situated using the rolled up blanket? Consider the fact that I'm a total newbie who didn't have the patience to get the k'tan going with my first (of course, i blame her tiny size and the fact that she nursed 23.75 hours a day) ;) of course, the infant insert seems super overpriced, so i'd love not to need it. but i have a feeling this baby won't meet the 15lb mark for quite some time, if he's anything like his sister.

I wasn't a fan of the moby and the ktan. I now use a fidella fly tai (aka mai tai), beco gemini SSC and a woven wrap.

I have heard good things about the lillebaby but I'm happy with my beco for SSC.

Oh, my Tekhni delta or galene is so pillowy soft and so supportive. They are both made out of repreve so it's soft and needs no breaking in. I bought them new and washed once and it was ready to go.
