I had a *really* hard time when I found out baby number two was a boy. I’m a girl. My daughter is a girl. What the heck do you do with a boy?

Now I can’t imagine it any other way. He’s only nine months old but he’s totally my little buddy. And the most laid back, easiest baby there ever was.

I have two boys. 3.5 and just shy of 2. They are as different as can be, but they are both high energy, they are rough and tumble, they love wrestling each other, they ROAR, they come home covered in sand and snot, and they’re just hilarious. My youngest only wants mama to put him to sleep and he could be running around like a wild animal shouting and yelling, but as soon as the lights are off, he calms right now and snuggles into my shoulder while I sing him songs. DS1 is a chatterbox and makes up hilariously complicated stories, loves to sing constantly, and he’s emotional. But he loves fiercely and does things with his whole heart. Love my boys. Given all the crap in the world today, I feel privileged to be able to raise boys who I hope will end up good strong honorable men.

Kids are kids. All boys are different, all girls are different. I have 3 mama friends that have boys, all my son's age. All of them are different from each other - one is an advanced talker, one screeches and babbles, two are average. One is soft and cuddly and sweet, one is raring to go 24/7, the other two change depending on the day. Two of them still nurse past age 2, two of them - nope. One of them is picky, one of them is ravenous, one of them LOVES veggies, the other loves his favorites. They all love their mama and their daddy. Some love cars, some love books, some love their toy kitchen, some love music. Some are more obedient than others, but I imagine that will change. I honestly don't understand attributing anything about my son to his biological sex, other than his penis.

All this to say, you will love your son just as much as your daughter, and some things will be different because he's different, and some things will be the same.... because he's yours!

I LOVE being a boy mama. My guy is 2.5 and he’s just the coolest little dude around. He’s so snuggly and loving and funny and clever. He’s not super wild and is pretty cautious in new situations. He’s very much an observer, but when he feels comfortable, watch out! He loves to be a “helper” and wants to be involved in everything. He cooks with my husband in his learning tower and can dump and stir ingredients and crack eggs! He loves to help me clean and has his own broom. He loves trucks and trains and dinosaurs. I know more about construction vehicles than I ever thought possible. He also loves building and drawing. I told him I liked a drawing he was working on and he goes “I’m working really hard mama!” He is just hilarious and so sweet. I had a splinter today and DH was helping me get it out and DS came over and put his hand under my chin and said “it’s ok mama, daddy gentle. Here, hold my hand” and then he kissed my booboo after it was out. 😍😍😍😍 he is a mamas boy for sure and while it’s sometimes exhausting to be the “preferred” parent, I LOVE it. Boys are awesome 💙💙💙

@pachamama: THIS. I did not have an immediate bond with DS, I think because for me it's hard to feel bonded to someone without knowing them at all. Obviously I felt him move for 9 months, but it's a different story on the outside as you learn the ins and outs of their little personalities and needs. Of course I loved him immediately, but that bond... it took a while. But it definitely came.

My DS is 18 months and just THE best. So full of energy, so determined, absolutely smitten with tractors and airplanes, loves animals. He's going non-stop all day and knows exactly what he wants, which is usually food and to be running around at full-speed outside. He's just so full of LIFE. But then, he's also down for cuddling to read books at night, watch an episode of Chuggington, and he still wakes up sometimes at night and needs to be nursed/cuddled back to sleep. Just a really, really fun combination of vivaciousness and tenderness. Current 13 wks with LO2 and I don't know if I would be more excited for a girl just to experience that, or for another boy because I KNOW how wonderful they are.

I have a dd who is 4 and ds who is 1. DS is the best! He's ALL boy.. he's LOUD, he's so so determined, he climbs everything, he's SOOOO fast, he is very demanding and he's very fast to let you know when he's not happy or you're not doing what he wants you to do. He's also the cutest little cuddler ever.. sometimes he just needs to be held to be close to you or he'll rest his cheek on my cheek (omg I die!!)... he tries to be like his big sister and he's sooo soo helpful. He is a LOT different from my daughter and I'm not sure if that's bc he's a boy or bc he's #2... but he's so fun!

@buttermilk: oh my lord in heaven I love my son more every day. I will say we had a SLOW start. I did not feel a strong connection to him for MONTHS- partly because he didn't look a thing like me and partly because I had some pretty severe PPD. So don't have expectations and don't compare your relationship to that of you and your daughter. I think as moms we are so pressured to FEEL certain ways that when we feel something unexpected or unpleasant (in my case, not a ton of affection for my son) it can be pretty horrifying.
What is life like with a boy? Oh man they are active! My son is 2 now and freaking loves machines. This morning I played hooky from work and we literally drove around my town scoping out bulldozers, cranes, wood chippers, saws, etc. He had a blast and I get butterflies every time I see a digger. I love having a son even though it took a long time to connect with him.

I had several younger brothers. So even though I was team green, I was 95% sure my first was a boy, and I was right!

DS is super affectionate, loving to give spontaneous hugs and kisses and a big fan of cuddles before bedtime. He is a great helper with his baby sister. We're training her to walk between us and he wanted to come hold her hand as she practiced walking. My heart melted. And no, she is not more stable holding his hand hahaha.

He's really into building towers and buildings and finding unconventional ways to ferry collections of toys around. The IKEA shape sorter can in fact hold all the letter blocks and barely balance on the back of the tractor that came with the barn! He loves puzzles, airplanes, dinosaurs, and dirt, but won't come close to see any worms!

He's very picky about his clothes and his favorite color is green. I buy him cute green dinosaur shirts but the green stripes are still his favorite.

I love my boy and hope I get another one sometime

Having a son has opened up a world that I didn't know existed. He's into vehicles, so because of him, I've been to car, boat and motorcycle shows and I know pretty much every Monster Jam truck out there. I also know about trick shots and I can sing the music to SpongeBob the Musical.

I don't have experience with a daughter yet (she's still cooking,) but being a boy mama is such a gift. My son is 2.75 and is "mama obsessed," and oh so snuggly. He likes to help me and has this fierce love for me...I hope it lasts forever! I'm sure having a daughter will be equally amazing, but having a boy? Also 😍.

I have a boy, my only child. His second word after “uh-oh” was “mama.” He’s my little bestie. What makes him special is what makes him endearing. “Hug Auggie” turned into “huggie” and that request is used exclusively with me. He identifies sounds like planes and motorcycle and loves party music with daddy. He’s curious and playful. We say Cheers when we have drinks- started as a motivator to drink water. He’s very good about including people. One time my mom and him were rolling balls back and forth and after a few times he rolled a ball to me so I could have a turn.

I just had a boy and my daughter is the same age as your daughter. It has been so fun. My daughter is a firecracker. Loves dirt, cars, trucks etc. this boy is so sweet, cuddly and chill. I’m excited to see how their personalities play out! She ADORES him by the way. Like is obsessed and is SO sweet and gentle (and she isn’t really a gentle child by nature).

I love my kids and they just happen to be boys. Kids are kids and you will fall in love with them when they are too little to have any gender differences. Mine like trucks and trains but also dancing and singing and all things pink. They have big emotions and feelings just like girls. They like soccer and football and gymnastics and yoga. Try not to get hung up on the sex because you will love him anyway and have no idea what his personality will be.

My older son will be 4 next week. He is just the absolute sweetest and adores his mama. He cuddles, holds my hand, and says the sweetest things these days. He told me yesterday that I’m doing a great job when I sent him a pic of me cuddling his baby brother. I love his obsession with trains and vehicles of all kinds. We have the best time looking for vehicles while out and about during the day. I always imagined myself having a son and getting to have two is just a dream come true! My littlest guy is 3.5 weeks and in NICU but I can’t wait to see more of his little personality and watch him grow.

@buttermilk: I have a 3.5 year old son and, if the sonograms are to be believed, we're welcoming a little girl in July so I kind of have the opposite question! I know nothing about little girls! :silly:

My son is ALL boy, and that is definitely inherent to him-we did not push trucks and such on him, he just is obsessed with anything with a motor and has been since he was really small! When he was little I had him dressed pretty gender neutral (lots of grey, green, yellow and animal prints-Burt's Bees rompers were our favorites!). But now all he wants are shirts with trucks, dinosaurs, and cars. He is very physical-lots of running, jumping, and high energy. However, he's also VERY snuggly and affectionate with both my husband and me. As my pregnancy has progressed he'll see that I struggle to get off the ground and will say "Here Mama, take my hand, I'll help you stand up." Melts my heart! Little boys LOVE their mamas-very excited for you to have that bond!

I was team green for both my babies. My first is a girl, and I just knew my second was a boy so I was not surprised when I was told “he’s peeing on you”. I was happy that I got to use the name that I loved and the only boy name we had agreed on through both pregnancies. 😁

I love having a girl, but I almost can’t explain how much I love having my son. It feels like he was always meant to be in our life. He’s so sweet and loving. He’s already high energy vs what his sister was and currently is, but it’s nice to have that different dynamic.

His big sister adores him and I actually think it’s pretty great that she’s going to get to grow up with a boy and vice versa. It will be good for them. So I think that difference in personality and viewpoint achieved by different genders is a pro.

I can’t speak too much about how great little boys are as he has only been with us for 9 months, but it has felt wonderful so far Congratulations!

I wasn’t sure I’d respond to this, since I never know what to attribute to my son being a boy v. What is just him, but I figure maybe that helps too? I love his sweet voice, and how he recites books he has memorized. I love how he knows every type of truck and makes sure to let me know when he sees them. I love how focused he can get playing with his toys. I love how he wants to help me cook and water the plants and set the table and do the laundry. I love how he says “I love you, mama” and “thank you for such a good dinner” and i love how he used to, before he had words, grab a book, aggressively thrust it at me and plop violently down on my lap saying “wap!” I love how he pretends to be my “precious baby” wrapped up in a towel after bath and sings “you are my sunshine” but replaces sunshine with mommy. He is the best, and I can’t imagine loving anyone more!
