My grandparents were always grandpa and grandma. I didn't even know people used other words until I was much older. SO has a granny and a grandad. His mom is "aunt deedee" to his cousins, so I'm assuming she'll become "grandma deedee" or "granny deedee" when we have kids. She's still deciding on what she wants to be called, however. No, we don't have kids yet ;)

These names are so cute! I had a Nanny, GranGran, Pa, and Grandpa growing up. My parents have already been dubbed Puto and Bumble by my youngest cousins, so that will probably be what we call them with my children. My DH is Greek so his parents will be Yiayia and Papou like his grandparents were.

My grandparents were called Gram and Gramps. They have since both passed on. My mom decided to be called Gram, but since my grandfather wasn't the nicest man towards the end of his life, my dad wanted something else and chose Zayde, the Yiddish form of Grandfather.

On my husband's side, we call the grandparents Grammy and Grampy

My nieces call my parents Grandma & papa. Although the 4 year old now calls him Grandpa "because she's not a baby anymore and can say it right." I like Papa so I think I'm going to try to stick with it when the time comes.

I'm blessed to still have my Great Grandma (97) and we have always called her Gee Gee becuase my sister couldn't say "Great Grandma Alice" and it has stuck with the entire family now!

I think my parents are going by the traditional grandma and grandpa. My husband's sisters kids call his parents Grammy and grampy. Can I just say how much I don't like those names? What happens when the kids are older? You stop calling your parents mommy and daddy, do you start calling the grandparents gram and gramps? Now those names? I like those. I think it's the "ie" sound I am not a fan of.

PS... @looch I love that you call your dad grumpy. :)

My bonus son calls all of his Grandmother's "Ama". They each have identifying names, my mother's is Ama and then her first name, which makes the most sense, then he calls DH's Mom "Ama with the kitties" and his bio-mom's mother "Ama boo boo", because when he was little she called him boo boo. I think it's funny when grandparents pick their names, because I think that children will call you whatever they want and then it sticks with the rest of the grandkids.

My mom picked out GiGi (actually I think I heard it somewhere and she liked that it was a little different). My dad is Papa (same as his dad for me).

My in-laws think that the kids get to pick whatever they want since my sister in laws daughter just started calling them NiNi and Pampy (because should couldn't pronounce what they wanted). I sort of agree with this but I also think that you can just correct the child if they get it "wrong".

I have a patient (I'm a PT) who was talking about her kids called their grandpa Big Poppa. :)

Around here, Grandmothers are usually Grammie, which is what I call my moms mom. When we were little, my cousin couldn't say that, so he called her Gammie.
I remember a TV show where the grandmother wanted to be called Goddess, lol.
My mom has some "adopted" grandsons, who call her Jammie, which is a combo of Grammie and her first initial.
I love how on Big Bang theory and on Reba, the grandmother is called Meemaw, which I figure is common in Texas?

We used the super redneck Mamaw and Papaw for mine, and my hubs called his grandma Memmie. I've always liked Gigi as a grandma name. My mom picked out Oma (german, even though we're not remotely german) and has since switched it to Nan, and now Gamma. I think she's just wasting her time since I'm sure my daughter will come up with her own name for her and she'll get stuck with it!
