I never really got a real period with Mirena, just spotting from time to time (like half a day every few months). I would grab a handful of dollar store tests and test every so often-- before going to the dentist for x-rays, going to a party etc. or if I wasn't feeling quite right just to make sure.

I am having mine removed today after 4.5 years and I will happily have another one put in when we are between kids!

@yellowbird: Dec 2011 - that is glorious! I took another HPT this morning because my paranoia is utterly boundless and of course it was neg so I am officially not worrying anymore!
Thanks ladies for the reassurances!!
@Beebug: I'm so sorry you had a mirena horror story. It does seem like one of those things that if it works well it is amazing but if it goes wrong its horrid! I hope that you are recovering well.

I'm the horror story with Mirena. I am still healing from surgery I had in July to remove it from my abdominal wall after it migrated! So I can't really complain about my wonky periods while Mirena was in since it probably never was where it was supposed to be :p

Good luck! I was on depo for 9 years of no periods if that counts for anything and it was amazing! I was young when I went on it so the "omg am I pregnant" stuff was never a worry and when it was I was used to no period!

The first "missed" period on Mirena can make you nervous!! If it makes you feel better to take a test, then I'd do that (I did!) - just keep in mind that Mirena is technically more effective than sterilization, so just remind yourself of that whenever you start to freak out :)

I never worried. I just stopped having a period and I was happy. I've had my second Mirena for almost 4 months now and I haven't bled in probably 2 months. Being pregnant never crossed my mind. I love it.

@babynumber1:O man, thats scary, my dr. said that the odds of it falling out after the first few months are tiny so that is crazy that it happened to two ladies at the same time! I am paranoid about that too! yey :(

My two BFF's both had the Mirena. Their periods did disappear after about 4-6 months, and only returned sporadically.

However, both of theirs fell out (within 2 weeks of each other!) One had it 3 years and the other one less than a year when they fell out. Apparently you can feel the strings, so you know if it is still in the proper place.

I was too scared to get one after theirs both feel out!

When I got my mirena, I thought, oohh, no periods - fab, but now 5-6 months in my period is late and I am a nervous freakzoid! I actually took a HPT this morn (neg!) but am still terrified that I am pregnant.
So mirena ladies, did your period stop after a time on mirena and if so how do you quiet the pregnancy fears or do you just get used to it. I fully admit I may have trust issues and so have a fear of this thing failing me!
