Thanks everyone - I'm glad to know it's normal! Between the drool & the spit-up, I think we are keeping bib companies in business!

We called our son Mr. Pukey. It looks like a lot, but he wasn't actually spitting all that much, it was just regular, if that makes sense. It stopped around 8 months.

Totally normal!!

Rs would vary day to day. Some days 5-6 bibs and outfits and then the next 1. She would spit up and keep crawling. Never bothered her at all. She was 10.5 months before it stopped.

It went away for us around month 5 or so? It was pretty frequent but I don't remember it being an issue by month 6. Our doc wasn't pushing rice cereal because of constipation issues, so she wore a bib ALL the time. So many bibs. So much neck cheese

We had the same problem and it didn't resolve until about 13 months. We always had to have a blanket handy!

My first was a happy spitter. She gained weight and never seemed to bothered by it so we never put her on any medicine. She did spit up a ton though. She stopped after awhile, I can't remember exactly how long, I think it just tapered off after 5 or 6 months or so.

Totally normal! My lo lived in bibs her first 8 months of life she was such a huge spitter! I worried about it until I was convinced by two lactation consultants that she was gaining weight, sleeping fine and eating well. She just spit up. A Lot. To the point where her favorite daycare teacher would bring a change of clothes just bc she knew M would probably soak her. :-)

My LO (3 months) is a mostly happy spitter. Sometimes I can tell she's having reflux and she gets cranky, but that's usually if we lay her down too fast after she eats. Otherwise, she often spits up along with a burp and sometimes again afterward, and usually at least once during tummy time. These don't seem to bother her. It's weird though, because some days she spits up a ton and other days, barely anything. We've had a few bad days lately and I think it's because she's gotten interested in chewing on things. The more she sucks on her paci or chews on her hands, the more she seems to spit up, I'm guessing because she's swallowing so much saliva.

I'm not sure how much he spat, in the early days it seemed like he would spit up the entire feed immediately after eating, every time -___- he would spit up at least once an hour, all day long. I eventually gave up on bibs and just let him soak his clothes (terrible, I know)

his spitting didn't even slow down until we were consistently doing 2 solid meals a day, around 9 months or so? I'm praying that #2 isn't this bad *crosses fingers*

DS is 13 weeks and is a puker. I was really concerned and wrote a thread about it when she was about 3 weeks. But she is gaining weight and happy and the doctor says she is fine. @Mrs. Blue linked to a blog post she had written on her boys' reflux, and my DD didn't have any of their symptoms.

LO was a happy spitter. I honestly can't remember how often or how much but I definitely remember talking to the dr about it. I know it lessened in frequency but occasionally became HUGE amounts, like a whole freakin' bottle (6oz!) around 8 months! Haha. Then it just stopped! I think the more mobiles she got, she became able to get the gas out on her own (moving), and it got better.

E spit up a TON. Like, it seemed like the kid was refunding his entire meal. We did so much laundry. Within the past few weeks, it finally (finally!) has drastically slowed down. We can actually keep him the same outfit for most of the day. He's 8.5 months.

DS is a happy spitter! Like @hummusgirl: we haven't done meds because the spitup never bothers him and he's gaining weight well (with the exception of when we didn't realize just how much my supply had decreased and needed to supplement). We keep him upright for 15 mins after feeding, too. We will start solids in a couple of weeks and are hoping it gets better from there.

I think if your LO is happy and gaining, don't worry too much. It can be alarming but remember that there's a lot of saliva in there, too! I've heard going through the process of determining if a baby has reflux is quite awful, so if your ped isn't concerned I'd just try to relax :) I guess one caveat would be if the spitup changes color/gets darker.

LO was a happy spitter for sure! She spit up after every feed, usually multiple times, but it never seemed to bother her. We never used any meds or anything but did give her a bit of probiotics every day, although it never slowed down the spitting up. We started solids at 5.5 months (skipped rice cereal altogether and went straight to purses) but she didn't stop spitting up until around 7-8 months, when she was consistently sitting up on her own.

@Mrs. Sunshine: LO has never had any issues sleeping flat or on her back. What's weird is she was a colicky newborn but the prolific spit up started later on.

My LO was a huge spitter. We would go through 10 bibs a day. He wasn't upset and was gaining weight fine, so we didn't do anything about it other than trying to keep him upright for 15 mins after eating. It started becoming less and less when we started solids at 6 months, and around 7-8 months it stopped altogether.

I am literally doing research on reflux right now. My 6 month old spits up quite a bit & seems happiest sleeping on my chest while I'm in a sitting position versus laying down....she started spitting up a lot around 1 month & it hasn't slowed

LO is a "happy spitter." She spits up at least once after each feeding, though, and sometimes three or four times. The amount varies but two or three times a day she will have a really big spit up - I would say a 1/2 oz to 1 oz? It's hard to tell but it seems like a lot. It never really bothers her. We have Zantac but that is supposed to be for reflux discomfort, not to stop the spit up. Now that she is 4 months I am thinking of trying rice cereal jn her bottles, though that doesn't help when she nurses of course.

Just wondering if this is normal?
