@T.H.O.U.: That was not obvious to me! Thank you!

@sarac: @808love: Your suggestions were very helpful, thank you. It's been a long, long time since I've tried on a wetsuit and I've totally forgotten the hassle of taking it off and on. I'm definitely leaning towards a sleeveless shortie now. I'm also considering just getting separates (shorts and a vest).

@periwinklebee: Interesting ... I've included those really thin neoprene-almost rash guards into the equation now. Thank you!

I have a full length one that I've used for triathlon. I generally find it a huge hassle to get into and out of, and somewhat of a hassle to clean as well, so usually I just deal with the cold rather than using it. I think one of the short ones would be better for this reason, even if it's somewhat colder.

Yes you will be warm. I like xcel wetsuits. I have only had their wetsuit top, not a full sized wetsuit. I live in a warm climate. Shorts sound better but colder. The full length will be harder to get in and out of. I had a rental before and had to go with the size they had on hand and it was tight fit.

I have a 2mm shortie wetsuit that I love. I use it for paddle boarding in the colder months, or early in the mornings during the summer. Just, whenever I would worry about being too cold if I fell in. I've done open water swimming in longer, thicker wetsuits, but they're such a pain. I wouldn't recommend one for just fun swimming.

If you have to buy online, I'd suggest buying a few to give yourself choices. I prefer the tank style neck - the high collar feels too tight for me. I'd suggest a 2mm shortie, and buy a few different sizes. They're super weird to size.

DD absolutely loves water and I wanna be able to hang with her for longer. Temperatures are cool where we live, even during the summer, and the water is usually way too cold for me to stay in for long lengths. Last time we were at the waterpark, there was a long line for wetsuits. It's time for me to buy one!

I've narrowed it down to shorties, perhaps 2-3mm. I really like the font-zipped varieties. I have to buy them online, so I was hoping you all can help me.

In the order of importance :silly:

1) Does a wetsuit only work if I'm constantly/fully submerged in water? Like if I'm only wading waist deep most of the time and take a real dip only occasionally, will my torso actually feel colder (as it's wet and drying)?
2) I'd prefer pants, but I have large calves. Will shorts be more comfy?
3) What brand/style is your favorite?

Thanks so much! Here's a beach pic for inspiration
