If I'm really sick, I'll call in and not feel guilty at all. I just can't do my job if I'm seriously under the weather, so it is better for me to not be there. That being said, I'm pretty much never "off the clock" unless I have a scheduled vacation day so I'm still expected to be accessible by email/phone if I'm needed even if I'm home sick.

@MamaMoose: Being able to work from home is a good option, then you aren't spreading the germs but still getting things done.

@redsmarties: Personal health days are important.

@MamaMoose: I feel the same way. When I called my boss this morning she said it is going around, so I'm wondering if there are others that were off sick today too.

@LuLu Mom: I work in an office and the only really bad time to call in would be month end. Other than that my work can wait until tomorrow.

Well, my day home was pretty good. I actually do feel much better. I didn't get a bunch of sleep like I hoped, but I had a lazy morning in bed watching tv and then I did some meal prep for the rest of the week. I feel like I'll be a much better mom/wife/employee for the rest of the week.

Usually I only call in if I'm really sick, but I still wasn't 100% from the weekend and having a LO to look after makes it hard to rest up even with the help of DH.

I feel very guilty when I have to call in sick but I have the option to work from home occasionally so I usually do that instead of going into the office. I probably need to learn to relax and use the sick time I am given.

@looch: that happened when i was pregnant too! i was really sick in my last 2 weeks of my third trimester and it was because everyone comes to work anyway when they are sick. i was so annoyed!

Having said that, i rarely call in sick, but i make every effort to keep my germs to myself. But that is only because i am anticipating i will need to use up my sick days when LO is sick,

When i was pregnant, I caught a horrible cold because the guy next to me didn't stay home! So now, if I am really sick, I stay home.

I am a nanny so I feel super guilty but I do try to call in sparingly. Occasionally I have called the night before and said here are my symptoms do you want me to come in and we will have a lazy day or would you prefer to avoid the germs.

No because I work at home. Which means I had better be dying if I try to call in sick because working on my laptop on my couch doesn't really require much physical effort from me. (If I am legit sick I let my boss know that I may be somewhat unresponsive due to necessary naps, but I work between it). I just don't have the sort of job where I can say "hey i'm sick" and get left alone for 24 hrs. So there is no faking it haha.

Not usually, I only feel bad if I had recently taken time off due to DD or something! Nothing I do is SO important that one day pushed back isn't going to cause any harm. Monday's are the worst day to take sick though, I try to avoid them at all cost.

It's funny that we all feel guilty calling in sick, because honestly when someone else in my office is sick I would MUCH rather they stay home, then come to work and power through. Keep your germs to yourself!

Just wondering if you call in sick when your not and do you feel guilty?

I spent most of the weekend sick, up all night Friday night and some of Saturday. By dinner yesterday I was starting to feel better and able to eat. Today I'm mostly just exhausted from lack of sleep and food. So I dropped DS off at daycare and called in sick. I feel kind of guilty even though work is a bit slow right now.

Now off to spend the morning in bed watching trashy tv and hopefully sleeping.
