@silver1: We actually used to have an air mattress that was high up like this one http://www.target.com/p/coleman-comfortsmart-twin-double-high-airbed/-/A-13192229#?lnk=sc_qi_detaillink but it got a hole in it so we just bought new ones. I'm sending this link to DH now though because one of our new air mattresses (we get twins because DH is such a light sleeper and can't sleep if I'm moving around on that) got a hole too. We Disney camp and I'm convinced the only animals they let in are deer, which just happen to come out at the perfect times, so I don't worry about animals. I always feel very safe going to the bathroom in the middle of the night there :)

I went tent camping about 4-5 months along. Had an air mattress which was pretty comfy and restroom nearby which was convenient. We just camped for 1 night and kept milk/eggs/food in small cooler which worked out fine. Camp though was a bit scary at night with howling sounds. DH kept joking the wolves would find me and get 2 for 1!! haha not funny then. Hopefully your camping is pretty tame!!
btw I used the same air mattress at 9 mo when were moving for a few days and I could manage although it was not fun getting up from floor level at night to pee. Maybe you could try mattress that comes with stand not sure how that would fit in a tent (unless you get a really large tent).

@looch: Yes, it would probably be much cheaper to pay for a car then to pay for all of that food from the general store! We just use it for when we forget something or run out of something..... or for coffee in the morning :)

@artbee: I honestly don't know how we'd all do in a car for that long! I haven't driven to Florida since I was in middle school!

We're going to Disney in September of this year, we're staying off property, but I'd love to try to do the camping thing at least once. I just have to see if it makes sense to fly and then maybe rent a car? That way we could pick up some gear/food.

@looch: So I'm assuming you'd rather fly? Like I said you can rent a tent and I think a cot too, so you wouldn't have to worry about tents and air mattresses. Disney's magical express (or something like that) will take you straight from the airport to Fort Wilderness, and then back to the airport again. There is a grill already there for cooking, so if I were you I'd liming my meals to things I could grill so I didn't have to bring all of our camping stoves, pots, pans, etc. There is a general store with food you can buy to cook, but of course it's pretty expensive since it's on property. It might be easier just to rent a cabin, they come with a full kitchen.

I went 8 months pregnant. I recommend an air mattress or pad. I had a self inflating one and brought a body pillow with me. I mostly stayed in the river because it was super hot in July. Stay hydrated and enjoy!

@artbee: I just don't know how we'd get all our gear there? That's the main issue at the moment, because we're about a 24 hour drive away. I could see it being a super way to ease into camping, but we literally have no gear and we're so far away.

@MapleMoose: I haven't heard the drying sheets thing, I'll have to try that. We got off fans because we didn't want to spray LO. They worked really well. You'll have to tell me how it goes.... now the only thing I'm really worried about is getting up to be at night. http://www.amazon.com/OFF-71703-Off-Clip-Starter/dp/B0043G63ZS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370889374&sr=8-1&keywords=bug+repellent+fan

@looch: My DH wouldn't camp before he met me. Now he loves it! For him close and clean bathrooms are important, and they have very clean bathrooms that are always close. They also have electricity and cable at every site. We go during football season so we always have a tv for the games- here's a picture of our set up. You can also plug in a coffee pot or whatever you need. They have golf carts for rent which we always get just to make life easier, but it's so easy to get around with just walking and buses. They actually have tents that you can rent and they'll do the set up for you, but we always bring our own stuff. DH will do the set up while I watch LO. They have a ton to do- pool with a slide and a kids splash area, chip and dale sing along every night followed by a disney movie, you can rent canoes, bikes, etc. You can take a bus anywhere if you want to go to a park or downtown disney. They have all sorts of activities like arts and craft, trivia, dance party by the pool. There are restaurants in Fort Wilderness if you don't like to cook- but they're pretty pricey. We always go out the first night because after set up we're just too tired and hungry to cook. Let me know what questions you have.... like I said I've gone every year since I was a baby so I know the place pretty well :)

@artbee: it's real camping to me! I ask because I am seriously considering doing it once. My husband loves camping but I can't warm to the idea, but this might be a good compromise.

I'm going tent camping twice (two long weekends) in a few weeks. I'll be 7 months pregnant. I'm looking forward to the vacations. I'll be on an air mattress with my snoogle so I should be alright. Now that I'm pregnant I am warm more often than not. Usually when I camp I get cold in the evenings and overnight. I'll try to avoid using bug spray if possible. I hear dryer sheets in your pockets work well. Plus I can bring long sleeve shirts.

@looch: yes. Guess I should have clarified that it's not "real" camping.... but we'll still be in tents :)

@Foodnerd81: Lol, I forgot about getting out of bed! If needed I could make DH help me. He's a light sleeper so he'd be awake anyway every time I got up. I don't love the heat.... but 1. it might not be hot and 2. I would suck it up for camping. My LO is a July baby and I spent plenty of time outside so I'm really not too worried about October.

@MrsRoo: We've been going there every year since I was a baby :) Now we go twice a year. October and March. We always do get a golf cart- I get bad migraines that are triggered by exercise/walking so it makes my life easier, and much easier now that we have to carry a diaper bag with us everywhere we go. We're always in Spanish Moss, I feel like bathrooms are pretty close to every site. We have 6 sites (lots of people going) so I'm sure one of those is close to the bathroom.... and I'm sure our friends will give me dibs :) I think it just depends on your LO for if you go camping. My biggest fears were STTN because tent walls aren't really walls and I don't want to disturb other people and weather- too hot or cold. This is why we got a cabin when my LO was a baby, but she was just 3 months and we booked so far in ahead she wasn't born yet so we didn't know that she'd be STTN. But we were still happy for the cabin as it downpoured the entire weekend. We've also gone tent camping when she was 14 and 19 months with no problems. It was pretty cold at night on our last trip, but I just bundled LO up and she slept fine.

@artbee: glad it helped! Our trip was to Ft Wilderness, too (I'm assuming that's what you mean by Disney camping?) We go at least once a year in Nov, and I'm sad cause this year we have a 7 month old so not sure about getting to go!

Since its Ft Wilderness, I'll also suggest asking for a campsite close to the bathrooms or get a golf cart! Actually, if its in the budget, get the golf cart regardless, so much easier to get around.

@artbee: I have to admit-- sleeping in a hotel and hanging out at the campsite during the day IS my kind of camping!

I'm a little over 7 months pregnant right now and sleeping on the ground on an air mattress just does not sound good to me at all-- it would take at least one strong helper to get me up I think. There is no way I could do it quietly I don't think. And, I can't deal with being too hot (but, I'm always like that and pregnancy just makes it worse-- so if you aren't a big heat/humidity wimp like me, maybe it wouldn't bother you).

So... yeah, it wouldn't be for me at all, but my biggest concern for you would being up to get up out of the air mattress quietly by yourself. It takes me a minute or two to get out of my regular bed.

@artbee: Just put your LO as far from the entrance of the tent as possible and just practice going in and out of the tent as quietly as possible during the day so that you're a pro by the time night rolls around. I'm sure it'll be fine though!

@artbee: Is it the kind of camping where there's a restroom? Or will you be peeing in the woods? How good are you at popping a squat while pregnant? If there IS a restroom, is it at least nearby? I know that when I was pregnant, I had to pee ALL THE TIME, so I'd hate to have to hike to the bathroom while camping.

I went camping pregnant, but I was only 10 weeks, so it wasn't a big deal. I DID sleep on an air mattress though at 7 months and found it surprisingly comfortable. I don't think it was filled totally full of air, so it had some nice give, which was really nice on my hips!

I think you'll be fine as long as you've got the bathroom situation figured out. :)

@Grace: We don't know what the weather will be like yet. It's going to be October in Florida.... we've had crazy hot and super cold at that time. We always do bring a fan though, even if it's cool for the day time when LO is napping. We actually have two twin mattresses.... one has a hole in it and I usually get stuck with that one, but I told DH that I get the good one this time! And I will be bringing my snoogle :)

Ick. I got invited camping this weekend and I couldn't imagine it. I get so hot and uncomfortable. I guess, just make sure you have a really good air mattress, your pillows and is it possible to have some sort of fan? Even better, a camper, with a real mattress?

Has anyone done it? Have any tips or tricks? We have a camping trip scheduled for when I'll be 7 months. I've gone camping with a baby and with a toddler twice, but never pregnant. So yes, I'll be 7 months pregnant and chasing a toddler around, of course with DH there to help. Am I crazy?
