@regberadaisy: are you excited about peeing in the woods? :silly:

I camped in my early 20's because my then BF was a huge camper - I hated it!

DS wants to camp so I told DH he had to take him this summer

We may go this summer, though I'm worried about bugs. Our area has a lot of ticks. We may hold off a year or two just because of that.

I'm not really a camping person. I like vacations in hotels with room service and pools  . I think at some point DS will want to camp though, so DH will start out with backyard camping. We back up onto some woods and we have a firepit. They can set up a tent in the backyard, roast marshmallows, etc.

We went when LO1 was 8 months. Sleep was _hard_. Our tent wasn't dark enough for him to take a nap, and it didn't get dark at night until several hours after his bedtime. He ended up only napping in the backpack carrier while were were on a hike.

But we survived :) and I'm hoping to go again this summer when the kids are 2.5 and 18 months.

We are taking both LO's camping/floating the river in May- they will be 3.5 and almost 2. I cannot wait! I think they are going to love exploring, we are big into outdoors stuff.

We have gone camping a bunch...first when our oldest was about 8 months old, and we did a backcountry canoe trip last summer (6 kids aged 6 months-5 years, 6 adults and a dog). We have found it to be most fun when we were with other families or other adults. It makes the work go faster and it is so nice when the kids have people to play with!
Our neighbourhood does a big camping trip each June--this year I think 22 families are going! I was worried it would be terrible, but it was so nice for the kids to just wander around and so many adults keeping tabs on them!

We had a night last summer where we pitched a tent in the backyard, made a fire in the fire pit and invited over friends with kids. They played in the tent, we roasted them marshmallows and let them skinny dip in the baby pool. At dusk they caught fireflies and put them in jars. The kids had a blast and at 9 pm they went to bed (inside) and the adults hung around the fire and had a few beers. That's my idea of camping!

Yeah, we first took our older around 15 months. My MIL has a camper so we had him in there in the pack n play and it was fine. Also took him at 17 months also in pack n play in the camper. We tent camped with him and tried him in the sleeping bag when he was 2 and he wouldn't go to sleep though. We had to drive him around the camp site!! It was still fun, but a little stressful at bed time. The next time we took him I want to say it was when he was just over 3 and he had been in a bed for a little while and he was totally fine with the concept of sleeping bag sleeping and went to bed fine.

We took our second when he was around 9 months. Also pack n play in my MIL's camper and he was fine.

DH wants to take our almost 3 year old camping this summer. I may come with our 7 month old, or I might stay home and let the two of them have some bonding time. I'm not much of a camper, and bringing a baby doesn't sound very fun to me. We only tent camp, so I might feel differently if we had a camper.

We are thinking about going camping this summer when our nieces are in town. The girls will be 4 and almost 2. We already have a big tent that used to my BIL's and plenty of tailgating gear, so we are set!
I've actually never been camping so I'm excited to sleep in a tent and cook over a campfire!

Anyone else think there's cause for concern of Zika in the US this summer? That's my only reservation about starting this summer.

We've long enjoyed plenty of camping activities with her (hiking, cook-outs, roasting marshmallows, swimming in the river), just haven't yet done an overnight, in a tent. DD will be three later this summer, and we plan to give it a shot.

We've gone a few times - 3 months, 18 months, 2.5 yrs, and 3.5yrs. The easiest was 3 months because he wasn't mobile yet! 3.5 yrs old was pretty easy too, because we could tell him he had to stay in a certain area and he would. We've only done tent camping and usually DS will sleep right next to (or on!) me. Naps were really hard at 18 months because we didn't have anywhere dark to put him.

We love to camp though and have so many places around us we can go. If it weren't for our crazy schedules we would do a lot more of it!

Has your LO ever been camping before? At what age?

LO is 3.5 and asked if we could go camping sometime (we read about it in a book), I told her someday we could...but I actually haven't been camping in many years. I'm not much of a camper, but will do it for the experience with them! I'm thinking it will be more fun in a couple of years, when they are a little older....
