@daniellemybelle: yes! I'm not sure if she knows to miss M because of object permanence. @Corduroy: yes I plan something out of the house at least once a day. We live in a walkable neighborhood- so it's easy to go to story time at the library or grab lunch somewhere.@blackbird: I guess it just that simple. Thank you ;)

Oh, totally! By 4 months LO would just light up when Daddy got home from work. While object permanence isn't really in place at that age yet, I do think she "missed" him. It was more like, she was happier when he was there and so his absence made her less happy even if she couldn't really grasp exactly why.

Yes, I definitely think so! Even when she was really tiny, K seemed out of sorts when she hadn't seen her Daddy in awhile.

@youboots: Do you get out and see other people on days DH is gone? My first LO was so fussy when I was home alone with her. Whenever anyone else was around she calmed down and cheered up. It made me feel crazy. My friend told me some babies need to see other faces. Sounds like BS but it rang true for my baby and made me feel better. She's 2.5 now and still a big people watcher.

I am not sure that they register the emotion as "missing" but I think they have a sense of their surroundings and the people that are in it.

My son was quite challenging when I was alone with him, as he has gotten older, he has mellowed out towards me and is now more challenging towards my husband.

It's worth mentioning he works from home usually 1-3 days a week so she sees him during the day. I don't feel stressed- I'm really confident in caring for her- I just miss M a lot.

DH and I always talk about how much happier and well behaved DS is when we are both with him together.

I think at that age she can sense he's missing or something is different. You may also be more stressed when you are solo parenting and so that is reflecting back in her.

Yep, I think so. My baby misses me when I'm not that, and then lights up when I get home.

I think so! H is a completely different person when T is gone. She was the same way as a baby.

DH travels for work. Anywhere from 4 nights a month to 12. Sometimes when he's gone I feel like I have a different baby. She cries much more, and can be grouchy (doesn't want to be set down, fussy, difficult). I thought these were growth spurts or Wonder Weeks. But these episodes seem to happen when DH is gone overnight. Can my 5 month old miss her Daddy? I feel like that's what it is. He's super hands on and they just adore eachother. Has anyone else delt with this? We now FaceTime 2x a day. Any other thoughts?
