Yes, for sure. I had them for a couple hours every evening starting around 37 weeks, I think. She ended up coming at 39 weeks.

@raintreebee: good to know, thanks! They're back with a vengeance tonight. I took some Tylenol and am sitting on the heating pad to see what happens. Hoping for either an uneventful night or something good!

@LovelyPlum: hopefully this is signs it'll be happening soon. :) I know two people who had their babies this weekend, 1 was 1 1/3 weeks early, the other was 5 weeks early(baby is fine). Maybe it's something in the water right now? ;)

This is probably not especially helpful, but I've had regular, painful contractions since around 34 weeks. And I am decidedly still pregnant at 38 weeks, soooo.....we might be in a similar boat here. I will say that they are painful, but I can talk and really function through them.

My doctor has said it's normal; call if they get longer, stronger, closer together, if there is blood or fluid. So it seems like maybe it could turn into something, but also I might just have contractions all the time. yay.

I had false labor from 34 weeks on. Mine got regular often. I had them constantly. Eventually the pattern would taper off. Never turned into anything. I was induced at 40 weeks.

@LovelyPlum: Hope this doesn't go on too long for you! Long-term contractions are not a fun thing. I totally hear you on the tons of water...I'm up to 4-5 32 oz bottles and the downside of course is all that water has to go somewhere!

Mine lasted 2 weeks with my second (with my first it was 2 days) and both active labors were less than 8 hours long and I walked into triage at 5 1/2 cm with both, so hopefully it goes fast for you once it starts for real!

My sympathies though, I was in tears all day last Friday because I was so miserable from it- the good news is that I felt awesome the second he was out!

@mrsrain: Thanks. I'm pretty sure that if I drink any more water, I will float away...I drink around 120 oz a day. If I go much below that, I do contract, but that's not what these were. Guess I'm in for the long haul...

@Dandelion: Spectacular. At least I know not to freak? I don't mind the discomfort, but it's super disorienting. Maybe tonight will be better-fingers crossed.

My midwife says to drink a bunch of water (like 20+ ounces) as dehydration can cause/exacerbate practice contractions. I would try that and see what happens... No other suggestions or help, I'm afraid!

@Dandelion: @redsmarties: @MapleMoose: awesome (or not). I'm glad to hear that it's not abnormal, but if this is going to be the pattern, I'm going to be mighty darn tired for a while. Can I ask how long it was between when this started and when you actually went into labor?

Sounds like mine. Weeks of "regular" but not close enough to go to the hospital. Nothing made them go away for me, not showers, bouncing on the yoga ball, walking, sitting/resting... Hope you find relief soon!

@MamaMagpie:  @T.H.O.U.:  @lemondrop:  @StbHisMrs:

Thanks ladies. The short story is they've stopped for now. The Tylenol and hot shower spaced them to every 15 minutes, and I was able to fall back asleep. I woke up at 7 am, and immediately, they started again, every 10-12 minutes. Somehow, I fell back asleep, and when I woke up at 10, they were still there, but every 12-15 minutes. Getting up has made them stop, or at least stop being so painful. I guess we're in a "wait and see" pattern for now.

@lemondrop: I'm hoping this is the case! I'm already really thinned out, but just at a 1.

@StbHisMrs: from 28 weeks?! Good gracious, that would make me crazy. Thanks for the tip about the shower :)

@MamaMagpie: I'm thinking I need to look up prodromal labor and see. That's what I was wondering about.

I had false labor in different degrees for 2 weeks. Mostly it was uncomfortable and annoying to get my hopes up. Once I went to bed everything stopped.

The good news was that by the time labor happened for real, it was quick since I had already progressed pretty far.

Ugh no fun :( I think if it's false labor, they'll go away. But I've heard about prodromal labor and although I don't know much about it, it sounds like false labor "symptoms" (not the right word but I'm tired haha) that don't go away until it's show time.
Fingers crossed they go away and you keep cooking that babe for a few more weeks!

If you had false labor, were the contractions you felt then regular? How long did they last before going away?

I've been contracting pretty much every 8-9 minutes for the past 3 hours, and I'm beginning to wonder what is going on. Sometimes, they space out to 12 minutes or so, and sometimes they come a little closer together. They feel like a combination of pressure and period cramps. I took some Tylenol and a hot shower about half an hour ago, and they've spaced out a bit. They're painful, though, and some feel like period cramps.

I know that if this is real labor, they'll get stronger. But if it's false labor, is it going to stop, or am I stuck feeling this way until the real deal? I'm 37 weeks today.
