Thanks ladies! I ended up not pumping last night. I debated the whole hour or 2 before bedtime and was sure I was going to do it for many of the reasons you all listed, but then when I went to get the pump parts I just felt so lazy and tired so I didn’t :silly: If I end up seeing a bad drop in supply I can try adding it back but I think my stash should give me plenty of buffer for the next 4 months. I’m at home with the kids until after new year’s so dropping the night pump means no pumping at all for the next week 🙌

@skipra: I started rotating my freezer stash several months ago so nothing is expired/should expire before I want to use it

@skipra: makes a good point - I stopped my before-bed pump because I thought I had plenty in the freezer, but my output during the day went down a bit and I started needing to use the freezer supply to make up for a small shortfall each day. Then I had a last-minute 3-day business trip and didn't have enough in the freezer to cover the 3 days, so we needed to add in some formula. Not the end of the world, but if I had known (and had done the math on my freezer stash), I would have kept the evening pump.

Just keep in mind that if you had oversupply early on the milk from then might "expire" depending on your storage situation. I would double check exactly how much you have, how much longer it will last, and how long you plan to bf. If only planning to go to a year a few more pumping sessions now could get you to a point where you could stop pumping at work earlier. I don't know, just a thought!

I think you'll be good. You might just find increased output during the day. You might be a little engorged at first, but your body will adjust.

I started a 12 hour stretch with no nursing/pumping when LO1 started sleeping through the night at three months old and nurses no problem until a year. Your body adapts.

@mrsbubbletea: I do pump at work and get just enough but I used to have an oversupply so I have a stash of at least a thousand ounces so I’m not worried about that so much.

@LBee: okay great! I mostly just needed to hear that it’s ok to go 12 hours without any pumping or nursing, thanks!

With both T and DD I’ve gone 12 hour stretches early on with no problem. I do pump after feeding first thing in the morning, but I’ve sort of trained my body to do that. I voted drop it!

At 8 months your supply is fairly well established.

I think you probably could drop it, but I voted no with reservations. Are you pumping at work? Do you feel like your supply is plenty for him? I would think that is you are pumping just enough or if you are close to that, it might be a good way to bump up your stash to bring you to the end of the year, if that’s your goal.

DS is 8 months old and sleeps through the night 7pm-7am. I’ve always pumped right before I go to bed at 10pm. It used to go towards a dreamfeed bottle but since we dropped that last month it’s just been extra. I get 2-4 oz so it’s an ok amount but not a lot. I have a good stash and no current supply issues so it’s just extra. I’m thinking of dropping it but I don’t want to be 1) super engorged every morning or 2) wreck my supply by having a 12 hour stretch with no nursing. Anyone have experience with this? Will I be okay dropping it?
