Doing cat-cow has helped with my hip and low back pain. Also heating pads and warm baths!

@ladybee: you're doing it right if you have your feet tucked together under your rear and your knees spread enough for room for your belly. Gently lower your head toward the floor, stretch your arms in front of yo,u and think of reaching your tailbone down toward your heels. Relax your shoulders and neck and lower back and breathe deeply.

Yeah, my LO likes to squirm during child's pose, too :) Now I realize I should have mentioned that I've started doing child's pose holding a pillow, so I'm not all the way bent over to the floor. It cuts way down on the squirming.

@DesertDreams88: ok so I did heating pad and child pose last night. My hips felt 60% better today so that's great. I'm not a yoga person, so I just want to make sure I'm doing it right. Baby goes crazy when I'm doing it.

My doc said no to the consistent heat of an electric one but yes to one that you heat up and then cools down. Ice ended up helping me more than heat though. Fwiw, I had horrible SI pain like that with my last pregnancy, and physical therapy was a Godsend. It was the only thing that made the pregnancy bearable.

Teacher here too! My ob actually said no to the heating pad, but yes to a cold pack, for 20min. I get freaked out by it though so it's usually not worth it.

Doing child's pose every night has helped, plus wearing maternity pants or a maternity support belt when wearing dresses.

Weeks 18-22 were the worst for me, until I became disciplined about those things I just mentioned.

Warm baths with plain epsom salts helped me more than a heating pad!

My doctor said my skin would have to burn off before it would hurt the baby. The problem with hot tubs, though, is that it raises your body temperature

@Foodnerd81: I was just thinking today that I'd need bed rest if it lasted like this. I'm a teacher so I'm on my feet all day.

Like the others I believe it's ok. But I also want to say that the early 20-ish weeks were the worst for my lower back with both pregnancies. I hope you have the same and it gets somewhat better in the next week or two!

Just throwing that out there because I was pretty see I couldn't survive the rest of this pregnancy for about a week, but now it's just frequently aches, not I can walk or lift my toddler.

I'm pretty sure it's ok as long as you don't put it on your belly or raise your body temp too high. I used microwave heat packs during pregnancy so they weren't maintaining a high temperature for long periods.

My hips feel like they are going to snap in half. My back is killing me. I'm 21 weeks.

Can I put a heating pad on my lower back/hip area?
