I would say yes. You want your night time routine should be different then your nap routine otherwise you run the rise that "night time sleep" will only last 2 hours or so.

I think sleep cues are good, swaddle, dim room, music, etc. but I wouldn't mimick the entire routine.

I personally don't think so.. Our nap routine at that age was exactly the same as bedtime, it just reinforces the sleepy cues. White noise, paci, swaddle, rock. The only thing I'd do differently is not bottle-to-sleep for naps if you can help it (I always tried to do EASY). Now our routines are still the same, except naps LO still needs rocking/bouncing, and at bedtime I'm working on just putting her down awake and letting her figure out falling asleep. She's 4 months.

I sometimes swaddle LO and play the same white noise for naps, and it doesn't affect his nighttime routine. The swaddle immediately puts him in nap mode, it's a great sleep cue.

Oh and we have to swaddle or she will wake herself up right away.

I don't know so I'm interested to see the answers. I used to just let her fall asleep but now that she hates napping, I do a pretty similar nap routine to bedtime- swaddle, white noise, nurse to sleep in her room with shades drawn. It usually works in the morning but not the afternoon. She was so cranky last night bc she was tired, but still went down to bed fine at least.

Sounds like she at least had figured out days and nights.

I would think its good to do that! We always swaddled as did white noise or both.

Our bedtime routine is very similar to our nap routine. I think it's good to use some of the same sleep cues.

We've got bedtime down to a T now (I REALLY hope I don't jinx it by saying that!). The last four nights, DD has gone down first time and slept beautifully....

The routine goes:

Bath
Lotion
Take into darkened bedroom with white noise
Swaddle
Bottle
Rock on the moses basket mattress in my arms (sneaky)
Sleep
Pop mattress back into basket without her noticing!

Her daytime naps have turned to crap though!!! I think, since the week 5 wonder week, she is just to stimulated to sleep (and this - among other things - makes her a massive grotbag!)

SO my question is - can I break out some of the bedtime techniques for the daytime naps? I'm thinking of putting her down in her moses basket upstairs (instead of in her moses basket in the lounge) and maybe swaddling, using the white noise etc. Would this be a little too much like bedtime? If so, will it undermine the bedtime routine, which is currently so successful??
