OPKs detect the surge of Luteinizing hormone (LH). The surge of LH triggers ovulation. While OPK's cannot confirm and give you an exact date of ovulation, they can let you know when it's about to happen. Usually you will ovulate 24-48 hours after you get a positive OPK.

The best time to take the test is in the afternoon hours as that is when the surge usually begins/reaches a peak. I think after 2 PM is best?? You want to make sure your urine is concentrated enough so it's suggested you limit fluid intake and hold it for 3-4 hours. It's only considered positive if the test line is as dark or darker than the control line. I couldn't hold it for that long during the day. So when I got home from work I would use the restroom and not drink anything for 2-3 hours and take the test at around 8 PM. I never had a problem getting a positive doing it this way. You will find what works best for you. Take the test once a day or even more if you like. Hope that helps!

I didn't use that brand. I used the target strips but I think they are pretty similar. There will be instructions on the test that tell you what day to start testing based on how long your cycle normally is. So let's say for you it tells you to start testing on cycle day 8. The first day of your period would be cycle day 1 and you would wait to test until day 8. Starting day 8 once a day you will test (pee in a cup, and submerge the test). Some people test multiple times a day, but I never did this. I just tested first thing in the morning each day and never had an issue finding a positive. Once you get a positive (usually meaning the test line is as dark or darker than the control line, but follow your instructions) that means you are having your LH surge. Your LH surge indicates that ovulation will occur in the next 24-48 hours so for that day and the two days after you should get BUSY.

So I thought I had a pretty good grasp on all things TTC, but now that we're getting into it, I feel like I need things explained to me more clearly.
Can someone explain how OPK's work and how to use them?
I'm getting ready to order that Wondfo combo set of Ovulation tests and pregnancy tests from Amazon.

So, a very clear explanation using as few acronyms as possible and assuming I know very little about anything. lol
