Thanks, all! I'm trying to not symptom spot, since progesterone gives pretty much the same symptoms as pregnancy. It's so difficult not to!!

There are several types and formats of progesterone so if you aren't happy with what you're on, you may talk to you doctor to discuss other options.

@CatchAFallingStar: Typically it's the absence of progesterone that starts your period, so AF should show up after you stop taking it. They'll probably have you take it for a certain number of days, test your blood for pregnancy and then depending on the results take you off it so you can get your period.

However, it is possible to still get AF while on progesterone.

@CatchAFallingStar: it didn't for me. AF arrived a couple days after I stopped progesterone.

Progesterone helps maintain pregnancies. It's the hormone that keeps your AF from starting (the drop in P is what signals to your body that you're not pregnant)

It can also increase the success rate of implantation. The corpus luteum releases it after ovulation.

It's to help support a possible pregnancy.

Even though I didn't have any progesterone problems, my RE still gave me progesterone after I got my BFP which I took until 12 weeks. The nurse said it might not be necessary, but it's good to take just in case.

What I understand is that progesterone is the hormone that keeps you pregnant. So if it is low then you will miscarry.

My RE gave me progesterone to take after my IUI. I'm taking it vaginally, 3 times per day. I hate it! The discharge is like chalk, my boobs hurt SO bad and I'm having pains all over. Plus, it's making me exhausted. He didn't really tell me WHY I'm taking it. Any input?
