I am interpreting it like how others have said. Also, I don't think you need to worry too much about your LO starting to sleep on her stomach. Once they start sleeping that way on their own, I think it is already safe to do so for. I think the general advice is for you not to put them on their tummy on purpose but if they put themselves in that position then it is fine. Most kids prefer sleeping on their tummies.

I would just ask. Stress eliminated.
But don't stress out too much. Just because YOU want your baby to sleep on her back doesn't mean your baby wants to. I always put my LO in the crib on her back and she would instantly roll over onto her stomach every time. I figured, why fight it and force her into something she obviously wasn't comfortable with. Of course, at this point, her neck muscles were strong and she was rolling over on her own.

I think she's just saying that your LO fell asleep on her own on her tummy while waiting for the bottle. Then the daycare provider woke her up, gave her the bottle then put her on her back for sleeping time.

I think you should cut right to the chase in your response to her. Regardless of what happened, she needs to know that it is your intention for LO to be sleeping on her back. So I would just write back saying "Thanks for the update, just so you know we want her to always sleep on her back"

@BabyLove: Yeah, aim for curious not what-the-heck-are-you-doing, lol. And if you want to sugar coat it even more, thank her for texting updates. I would consider saying something like, "I LOVE that you text me updates about LO throughout the day, it always gives me extra peace of mind. I'm just a little confused about your last message, could you clarify it?"

Phew, this is relieving. I think I might of misinterpretted it after all. But @Navy_Mommy yo'ure right, I should at least just ask. I'll do so in a curious way and not a "what-the-heck-are-you-doing-way", haha.

I never really considered that it is common for babies to prefer sleeping on their bellies. I've only ever heard that it's not best. I do know a lot of people that allow it. I'm really not even sure how you'd prevent it anyway. Is there an age that a child has to reach before it's ok?

@BabyLove: But it is a thing. You don't want your child, whom you're paying this woman to watch, sleeping on her stomach. Just ask what she meant and clarify that you'd rather your child sleep on her back than on her tummy.

Yeah, it sounds to me like she was doing tummy time and went to make her a bottle and she fell asleep. When your daycare provider came back with the bottle, she woke her up, fed, her, and then put her down on her back to sleep.

Sounds like she discovered that baby prefers to sleep on her belly, because she happened to fall asleep while on belly. then nanny transferred her to crib, on her back. My red flag did go up, but when I look back and remember the day I realized RJ prefers belly sleeping (still does to this day! 2 yrs old!) and flag went down. When he started being able to lift his head and move from cheek to cheek, I let him sleep on his belly and it improved his digestion, his nose stuffiness (I'd find boogers just lying on the sheets because gravity would pull them out of his nose!), and so many other things. He also slept a lot longer while on his belly. So since she's discovered this in a baby before, she's probably just excited that it happened again.

To me it sounds like she put her back in on her back. My daghter would never sleep on her back, even before she was a month old she would roll to her tummy to sleep no matter how many times I put her on her back. She is 3 years old now and still only sleeps on her tummy.

So, my daycare provider thus far is amazing. We like her a lot. It's been 2 weeks. She's especially great because she texts me throughout the day to let me know how my LO is doing. This afternoon she texted me with this "she just went down for a nap... i discovered her sleep position.. she started fussing while i was making her bottle and was on her tummy on the floor (playing).. she was sleeping in less than 2 min. I woke her for her bottle and she's in the crib (on back) now" She goes on to say that another child in her care was the same way. that he preferred to sleep on his tummy and learned quickly how to roll over so he could sleep on his belly.

I'm not into tummy sleeping. For any length of time. Is she saying she let her sleep that way? Or just that she fell asleep that way but then put her on her back in the crib? I'm confused. If it was the former, should I say something? I dont' want to be "that" mom. This is the general issue with texts. It's easy to misinterpret. Hmmmm.....
