@T.H.O.U.: ahh thank you for that article! it mentioned that they could be a reaction to vaccines as well and he did just have his 12 month vaccines 2 weeks ago... i'm curious if that could be it, too (but still doesn't explain the one he's had for several months.) i think i will call his doctor just for reassurance though!

@CottonCandy: oh good to know! thanks, again! :)

@jmarionsmith: The doc told us to monitor it for a few months but noted that it was not super unusual for the nodes to stick around a longer period of time than what one would think. They went down a little bit eventually, but its not gone completely.

@jmarionsmith: This seems to indicate that it could be due to teething but also indicates that after 2 weeks of enlargement, additional testing should be considered.

@T.H.O.U.: thank you for responding! do you mean they shouldn't be swollen that long in children or just in general? both dh and i have permanently swollen lymph nodes from illnesses we had as children and i've always been told it's fine. (though, i secretly worry about it from time to time)

@CottonCandy: thank you for the advice! what did you have to do to find out it was nothing to worry about? any tests? did your lo's nodes go down eventually?

I would make an appointment sooner, rather than waiting two more months. However, I had a scare a while back when my LO had swollen nodes for a long period of time, and I was totally freaked out about it. It ended up being nothing to be concerned about, and I'm sure you don't have to worry either. Just for the piece of mind though, I'd go to the doc sooner rather than later.

Personally, I would get it checked out immediately by an ENT. I don't think they are supposed to be swollen for that length of time. There may even be some simple blood work that can help show if there is an underlying issue. The lymph nodes can really indicate an issue so I wouldn't ignore it.

LO is 12 months old and for about 6 months he's had a visible swollen lymph node on the right side of his neck. I know that usually they are no big deal so I just waited until his 6 month well visit to ask the doctor about it. At the time she said we'll just keep an eye on it. At both his 9 and 12 month well visits she still thought it wasn't a problem since it's not getting bigger.

A few days ago I felt another small node in the back of his head and just yesterday felt at least one, maybe 2 more, on the other side of his neck.

He has no signs of infections or a cold but is teething like mad. Could this be the reason for the new swollen nodes? Should I make another appointment with his pediatrician or just wait until the next well visit (in 2 months.)
