I ate quite a bit of candy for several days in my 1st trimester because that was the only way to survive but then I got to a point where even the candy made me feel like throwing up and I stopped eating it. I think if you can find an alternative to candy thats great but Like pp I sthink you could still get GD whether you eat lots of candy or not

I've heard so many stories like @duetletterpress where people who don't eat very much sugar still get it and people who do eat a lot of sugar don't. It seems to me like it's kind of random? I eat a lot of candy, too. I hope I don't get it...

Perhaps you can switch to a sugar-free candy, even if just once in a while? That could help keep your sugar low. I'm diabetic and I've found sugar-free toffees, life-savers, and other things to suck on.

i didn't eat candy. gosh i barely could eat anything but i still ended up with gd. my docs were even surprised thinking the first test i failed was a fluke. nope, i had it.

i don't think i've tested for it yet, but gosh i hope not because like you, i need to suck on candy, chew on gum or something. especially if i ate something with an aftertaste (i get nauseous if i have an aftertaste). first trimester, i needed sucking candy to get through my m/s.

I was pregnant during the holidays last year (Christmas was a killer in our office). Ate a ton of sweets.. like, out of control, all I wanted to eat were baked goods and Moose Munch. I failed my first GD blood test. Was retested and passed.
Phew.
So too answer your question. In my case, eating too many sweets didn't cause GD.

I've been having nausea for the past few weeks that's relieved somewhat by hard candy. I feel like I pretty much constantly have candy in my mouth. I know it's not particulary healthy, but I do make sure the baby still gets proper nutrients throughout the day. But can having too much candy during pregnancy cause gestational diabetes?
