Sure!! I wanted to skip it but T's room (and our house) is pretty small and there has to be room for his toys too. A toddler bed gave us tons of space so that's what we went with.

And that set is adorable!

We skipped the crib and toddler bed! She still sleeps with us but has a twin in her room for when we're ready. I expect she'll start napping there fairly soon.

@JoJoGirl: Yes you can def skip the toddler bed! DD went from crib to twin bed with no problems whatsoever. I think for the first few nights we put pillows on the ground beside her bed? She's never fallen out though.

Getting a big girl bed is so exciting!!

DS went from packnplay to a foam mattress on the floor. He Loves his "bed" and someday we'll probably get Ikea bunks for him and baby brother.

If you don't want to make the decision on furniture right away you could just get the mattress in the size you plan on getting. We are about to make the transition too and we are just putting a queen mattress on the floor for a while until he gets used to the parameters of the mattress and worrying about furniture in a few months.

@Chillybear: No, the bed is only like 24" wide so she definitely couldn't sleep the other way.

@2PeasinaPod: I'm not so worried about that because we always sleep with our windows closed and locked. More that we have a nice room-darkening window shade and I don't want her to be up against it and smoosh it. Maybe we could pull the bed a few inches away from the wall so she's not right on top of the window, but not so far that her pillow will fall through onto the floor? I'd put the bed in the middle of the wall if there were a real headboard, but without it worry her pillow will fall off all night!

@JoJoGirl: That is a bummer :bummed: It scared me to have DS so close to a window since he knows how to open and close them. I felt safer with him being away from them. He's so all over the place when he sleeps that he could easily roll into the windowsill if it's open and push the screen out and fall 2 stories. Our windows are lower than most. Middle of the room seemed much safer to me.

Could you have her sleep the other way or is she too tall? (using the shelving as a headboard) then she would have a wider space to roll around

We went from a crib to a floor bed to see how she'd do. She moved around so much in her crib, I was worried.. But she did awesome and we only did the floor bed for a week or two before moving her to a twin with no rail. She fell out once, and she didn't even wake up.

We took the front of the crib off and slept that was for 3-4 months. But she was climbing out so we had to do something. Otherwise we would have gone straight to the regular bed. She has a queen cause she got my old mattress from my single days. It is in the middle of the room. We don't use rails and she is fine.

@2PeasinaPod: This is exactly our issue, windows on one side and a closet on the other, so there's no good "corner" for this bed. Since it has to go in a corner with the bookshelf, her head will be up against the window and blind. Kind of a bummer.

DD1 is three and has been in a twin since 18 months. She used a rail until she was 2.5 and then asked to remove it. She hasn't ever fallen out of bed.

We went from a crib to a double bed with LO1! Our transition was incredibly smooth, and we tried to do it before LO2 arrived so that he didn't feel threatened that baby was taking all of his stuff. We made a huge deal about redoing our front room as his big boy room. He "helped" to paint, picked out colors he liked and was really excited the first night he slept in there.

As an aside, his double sticks out from the middle of the room since we have windows on one side and a closet on the other. We use two bed rails on either side still at 3.5. He's really all over the place when he sleeps, so we have it there just in case.

Awesome, thanks guys! Our other issue is her head will be sort of up against the window because of the way her room is laid out, but that's a whole separate thing. I love that bookshelf attachment :) :)

We skipped the toddler bed about 3 weeks ago, and all is well. We didn't even bother with a rail - we just taped 3 pool noodles together and put it under the sheet. I think she would have been fine without even that, but DH insisted.
