Ha, I just checked the description for ours, and it says parents are required to stay.

wow, never heard of that! I wonder, if someone's LO gets hurt during storytime (though unlikely) without the parent present, who is liable??

That is strange! I have never heard of a drop-off storytime. Even the "family storytime" which is in the evenings and all ages welcomes parents/adults.

@Finfan: I always wanted to be a librarian when I was a kid!

Hubby took DD for storytime yesterdy for the first time, she absolutely loved it. Hoping I can take her to some of the weekday sessions, othewise he might take her to weekend storytime. Parents are definitely allowed at our library storytime, usually they sit back and watcg/browse.

That's so weird! I've gone to story time at our local bookstore, not library, and parents/caregivers are definitely allowed

I've never heard of parents being unwelcome at story time! Do you know what their reasoning is?

Yes. We have an under 1- when siblings and parents can still attend and everyone else is just lumped together- parents are welcome there too. Sometimes it's 50+ people.

Parents can stay in the room for our preschool age (4-5) storytime but most of them opt to pick out books for themselves or hang with little siblings.

I do the 2-3 year old storytimes at our library (as in I am the librarian) and parents/caregivers are required to stay for that. We generally have about 15-20 kids.

Parents/grandparents can attend but it's usually grandparents since it's during my work hours. I have taken him a couple of times, it's basically just trying to prevent him from escaping.

Well, no I can't because they only have story times when I'm at work. :silly: But for those who don't, parents are allowed.

I'm pretty sure parents are welcomed for all ages at our library! I haven't made it to any so far tho b/c they clash with DD's naps.

I attend the twos storytime with LO 2 but parents are not allowed in the room for ages 3-5 at our library. We drop LO 1 (age 4) off in the room and then we read or play with puzzles in the children's area with LO 2/3 while we wait. A lot of the younger 3 year olds don't like attending alone so they usually crash the 2 year old storytime with their parents.
