DS knew them all from 20-21 months old and loves calling them out wherever he sees signs or posters.

I'm not 100% sure but she definitely would be too shy to call them out at a doctor's office. Shes 3.5

Mostly but he confuses some on occasion.
M, N and W are hard for him.
Occasionally he'll mix up P and R since they're same shape with a slight difference.
Oh and it's just uppercase. He doesn't really know lower case yet.
He knows numbers 1-9
He'll be 2 in September. I've been told it's early to know them (by my sister who has 3 older kids) BUT I really think it's because my sitter insisted on letter and number flash cards when he was like 6 months old. She's been doing them a couple times a week ever since.

Yes. He's been obsessed since about 18 months. He knows uppercase and lowercase. He also knows that M is for Mama etc. but I doubt he would be able to do all that in a doctor's office!! He's 2 now.

Yep. With uppercase she can recognize them all and tell you what sound they make. With lowercase I would say she's about 75% successful? I know she gets confused on lowercase b vs d vs p.

ETA: She's 3.5. She's known the upper case letters for probably about a year?

Yes. DS knew all his uppercase letters by the time he was 18 months, and lowercase was around 20 months.

When our K-1 English Language Learners have eye test at school, they use a picture chart instead of letters, numbers, or shapes.

Yes. He loves to point out letters, especially the letter D, since his name starts with a D. He struggles a bit with lowercase just because they've mostly learned uppercase so far (he's 3), but he gets uppercase with no trouble.

ETA: But I could definitely see him saying he didn't know or clamming up out of shyness at the doctor's office.

I believe so. Sometimes she will mix certain ones up (@oliviaoblivia: Like M and W) and lowercase letters can throw her sometimes, but I think she does know them all. The other day she was holding up the H foam letter and would hold it up and say "this is an H" then turn it in its side and say "now it looks like an I".

But I could see her getting shy at the doctors office and saying she didn't know anyway.
Eta: she will be 3 at the end of July.

We had a vision test at the pediatricians office the other day and the woman doing the test was trying to get my daughter to read the letter chart. She knew a few of the letters (she knows about half of the alphabet) but she went silent on most. So, she had to switch to the shapes, which was no problem.
