I am a twin and my mom delivered us vaginally but never had an ultrasound prior to delivery so I don't know that we were ever labeled as baby A and B until birth. My sister and I sort of split the bossy role throughout our lives (I am technically 3min younger). I believe bossiness is very much a trait of personality unrelated to which order your are born; however I will say I still get great pleasure in playing the "but I'm the baby" card whenever my sister brings up the fact that she is older (it is just the two of us).

@sandsandmore - that's exactly what i was worried about. because i was getting attached to them separately. unfortunately, i don't think the doctors really care about that. i think they're like my husband - who cares? i do! lol.

@tequiero21 -- what I find interesting is if the babies are the same gender and pretty much the same size....if they switch positions in between appointments, how do they really know if A is still the original A? And some parents attribute personalities to the babies and name them in utero....but how do they really know which one is which if they switch positions at the last second?

@sandsandmore - yeah, i've wondered about that! i don't know why but i want A to stay A and B to stay B so i could keep track of my babies. but now that i know which one's a girl and which one's a boy, i can at least figure it out lol.

Well, your babies are labeled as Baby A and Baby B. Baby A is the one closes to the cervix, so if you have a vaginal birth, Baby A will be born first. What's interesting is that sometimes the babies can shift positions in utero, so even though you birth Baby A first, he may have originally been baby B! If you have a c-section, I think they still do Baby A first, but I don't know for sure. In my case Baby A was delivered first via c-section.

I'm a twin and apparently if my mom had delivered vaginally my sister would have been born first, but instead I was. I am much more responsible than my sister and act like an older sibling. Just my two cents.

I've heard that they try to take the one who would have been born first vaginally out first...(first in line!) not sure if that is true or not!

@mrbee - hmmm. that's definitely a great idea. read one of the comments and they said that when they're young, they won't reveal it but when they're older and they want to know, they'd tell them. i like it!

I have a friend who had something bad happen to her twins. (I won't tell you what because it isn't helpful to hear other people's horror stories) But, the upshot is that they had to remove her twins in a specific order, which they did... so I'm assuming the answer is yes, they can do it in a specific order.
Though I agree with Jenna. I don't think the actual birth order (by seconds) would matter that much.

@blushink - haha, i'll keep you guys updated if and when i get my answer.

@jenna - you're probably right. maybe that's what it is. the twins i knew were young, so maybe it's also a "maturity" thing.

I think that the twin who acts like the older sister just has that personality. My younger sisters are twins and one was seven minutes older than the other, but she's the more immature of the two for sure.

I've never heard of people requesting birth order for multiples, maybe you can ask your doctor?

From my experience, little girls seem to be more mature than boys anyway, so yours may end up acting like the older sister regardless of what order they come out!

hmm, i think it has to do with placement. So maybe it's doable maybe not. It depends how it goes. But it's a question Iwould ask. I'm actually intrigued.

just curious. i haven't discussed this with my ob because we decided to talk about this kind of stuff when i'm a little further along. maybe around 19 weeks, when i have my next appointment.

i know it's dumb, but i want the boy to be born first. 1. i've always wanted an older brother. 2. i know twins where the girl is only a few minutes older but acts like the way older sister. i just don't like the way girls can get so bossy when they're the older sister (i'm the older sister and i never thought of myself as bossy but i think i definitely did bully my brother when he was young)...

my husband thinks i'm being ridiculous and he doesn't think it'll make a difference. a girl wants what a girl wants! i think if i do end up having a natural birth, the girl will be born first since she's the one on the bottom. not sure if they would ever switch positions.
