I'm not sure about thrush, but if it's not that it could be a milk blister. What you're describing is how it felt when I had a one. That would be a lot easier to get rid of than thrush I think! Check around your areola for a bump like a pimple.

In the last two days or so, I've started getting a burning pain in one of my nipples. It persists even while I'm not nursing and feels sore when I (or my shirt) touch it. My son has a white tongue, but he always has and I figured it was just milk residue. No white in the cheeks or on the gums. Can you have thrush pain on only one side? I would think it would be on both since he eats equally from both sides, but maybe it's just starting? Anyone experience this? I haven't had any pain breastfeeding since the very first few days, so it's weird that it's popping up again now (my son is 6.5 weeks). No cracks, dryness or itchiness for me, really just the pain and his white tongue are the only symptoms.
