If you are driving at the onset of contractions, then they start a little slower (typically) and you would likely be okay. My contractions started and felt like intense cramps for a couple of hours, and that was considered a fast progression into active labor. I had been having contractions for about 24 hours before I went to the hospital. Those were all fine and I could have driven fine (though my husband even drove me to the Drs appointment that day because he didn't like the idea of me driving through light contractions). But we didn't go to the hospital till after my water broke. Contractions quickly went from irritating to wow, this is really painful. It was a surprise. I think probably I could have stayed in enough control over a car but also think it would have been unwise and unnecessary to try, lots of people will go out of their way to escort a pregnant lady having a baby.</p> <p>ETA: I misread I thought you were talking about driving yourself to the hospital.
