Thanks for the insight ladies! Who knows what I will be in the mood for, but I just wasn't sure how it transfers over when you are BFing!

My doctor and LC said all food is fine.

However, you have to be careful with alcohol and caffeine and time it right if BF.

You definitely can. I had all these grand illusions of what I was going to have after I delivered but I pretty much had zero interest in food for almost a week after. My mom and hubs had to remind/force me to eat.

Yes! Everything in moderation. I didn't drink for the first month until I started pumping so that I had more control over when she was fed and when I made milk.. but I'm a control freak like that!

Oh yeah!! I was SO excited after I delivered and they brought in my breakfast - complete with coffee! I looked around like "omg I can *actually* have it now??"

hehe yes :)! alcohol and caffeine for sure monitor and limit within reason, but the other food stuff (soft serve, deli meats, sushi etc) go for it!! :) although to be honest i've had some during pregnancy, too... just a few bites!

Yes! My baby is never affected by what I eat. Nothing bothers her!

Yep! However, when it came to drinking alcohol, my doctor said it was sort of like drinking and driving. If I had a glass of wine after putting LO down at night, by the time she woke up for a feeding, the alcohol from the wine would have passed through my system by then (3-4 hours-ish?)...

As for food, anything is a go. I still drank coffee every morning and drank Coke and stuff without worrying.

Depends on your comfort level and your baby, from what I can tell. Sushi, I haven't heard anything bad about eating while nursing. Alcohol, there are many many opinions but I plan on the safe to drive safe to feed rule (more like 1 drink, wait an hour, etc.). Coffee does pass through but again, it affects some babies and doesn't affect others.

I plan on just playing it by ear and seeing what baby and I are comfortable with :)

I think it's up to you. I limited my coffee and wine intake in the very beginning because of nursing.

I keep hearing, "I'm going to have sushi/wine/coffee etc. as soon as the baby is born in the hospital!" But if you are breastfeeding, can you have those things? Is it safer than when you're pregnant?
