OMG @kjpugs is the best for manicure advice!!! Hopefully she'll see this post later... She wrote a whole blog post with tips though! - http://kjpugs.com/2012/08/kjpugs-nail-polish-tips-a-giveaway/

I took her advice, painted my nails on Sunday and they are still free of chips today! The tips are slowing wearing off, kinda like when you have acrylics, but it's hardly noticeable!

To sum it up - buff surface of nails to help polish stick, apply Orly’s ‘Bonder’ base coat, two coats of polish and top coat from Seche Vite. Literally, within a minute of applying the top coat, your nails are dry and you can actually do things!!! She's awesome.

@.twist.: Yeah, I'm REALLY impatient, so I probably don't do enough drying time either.

@IRunForFun: I think the drying in between coats is really important as well, wet on wet on wet is recipe for disaster.

Hmmm I haven't been doing the base coat or making sure to get the tips of the nails...maybe that's my problem. I will try that!

I can. I don't know if they chip less often, but I do give a nice manicure to myself. One of my BFF's even requests me do her nails on occasion!

I always just make sure they're short and filed and any pieces that look like they might chip, I file off.

Then I put a clear coat of polish on and I make sure to coat the ends of my nails, not the top, but the ends... ya know?

Then I apply the colour carefully x2 (with drying in between), again, I ALWAYS make sure to coat the ends of my nails. I find that helps prevent them chipping.

Once all that has dried I apply another clear top coat and again coat the ends of the nails. voila!

I am absolutely horrible at doing my own nails. No matter what I do, no matter how careful I am, no matter what polish I use, I always seem to get clumpy nails that chip right away. I get so frustrated!!

However, my sister can do my nails using the exact same polish I've tried, and they'll last over a week without chipping!

Obviously, if I get a professional manicure, that will also last a while.

But, my sister can't do my nails every week and I can't afford regular manicures, so I need to figure this out for myself!

Any tips, polish recommendations, top coat recommendations? Help a girl out!
