I can't bribe LO yet (she's too young) but I threaten and I'm always armed with snacks. The snacks aren't for behaviour, though, it's more for occupying her attention if we have to wait a while for something (if we're eating at a restaurant).

I try not to reward behavior with food, because my son doesn't eat a lot at his meals as it is.

I do "threaten" but I do it in a way he can understand, using clear actions that he must follow and a clear consequence. As an example, in a situation where he won't hold my hand, I give him until the count of three to come back or he must sit in the stroller. It works.

As for bribing, there is nothing that I could use that my son would want, I've thought about it, lol.

We have been cutting down on bribes, but I do have a bag full of snacks when we are out. I use those more as distractions. Threats don't seem to work, but that's not to say I haven't tried!

Lo is too young for bribes and she only has snacks at snack time. But I do threaten. For example, she will randomly sit down when were walking and ill tell her to stand and walk. When she doesn't I say ok, but if you don't walk mommy will have to pick you up and carry you. And she gets up every time. It's not an empty threat though at least.

I must admit that I use all three things regularly in my parenting toolkit. It's hard to always stay patient and calm (threats), get the kids to do something they don't want to (bribes), and keep them from fussing when we're out and about (snacks).

I should give all three up, but I think maybe bribes should be the first to go.

Can you parent without bribes, threats, and snacks? Which would be the hardest to give up.
