Another vote for vinegar and water. Cheap, effective, and no nasty synthetic fragrances.

Are you by Wegmans? Their plant based brands are good. We also use a few Seventh Generation products, and vinegar and water for general purpose surface cleaning. I want to try making my own though too!

I'm looking for a natural all-purpose cleaner similar to Mr. Clean or Pine-Sol that can be diluted for use one the floors and into a spray bottle for other uses. Has anyone found something they love that cleans well without the chemical smell?

I switched to vinegar+water+essential oils for an all purpose cleaning spray. I do 1 part vinegar + 1 part water + 5-10 drops of oils. It's cheap (I already had the oils on hand) and easy and I don't mind the vinegar smell.

@Bsweetie27: I use Better Life too, amazing!

Ugh I am so annoyed at Method. I caved and bought a ton during an amazing Target sale but they are def not really all natural.

I've been using Caldrea countertop spray for a few months. The scents are all natural and not overpowering. I haven't used it for much deep cleaning yet, but it's good for general wipe downs of the counter and stove

Not sure how natural (the bottle says 99 percent) but I am somewhat obsessed with the pledge all purpose spray in the blue bottle. It is orange scented and just smells SO good.

I also really like Method's mint scents and don't find them as strong as some of the others they have.

@tillma: I can't stand the smell of vinegar either, but the EOs seem to mask the smell, and then it just smells "clean"! For my floors, I use 12 oz water/4 oz vinegar/1 TB Dawn and add whatever essential oils I feel like. I think my "recipe" said 6-8 drops but I'm much more liberal than that :silly: more like 15-20 drops? I like peppermint and vanilla. For our granite, I use 1/4 C rubbing alcohol, and fill the rest of my (16 oz) spray bottle up with water. Add a few drops of Dawn and like 10 of whatever EOs I feel like smelling for the foreseeable future.

@hellobeeboston: I buy mine off of Amazon. I know some people are die hard fans of certain brands (DoTerra, Young Living, etc) but I'm using them more for their scent benefits than anything else, so I'm not as worried about supposed purity. Also, I'm a cheap @$$

I think the method brand is fake "natural" that still has bad ingredients. My favourite product is by a brand called Better Life, and its an unscented all purpose cleaner. I usually buy it off a website called iherb.com, it's all natural stuff on there and arrives at my door in a few days. It seems they also carry the JR Watkins brand

@bees_knees: I haven't but now I'm intrigued! I also am a bit sensitive to the smell of vinegar so I have always avoided using it but then maybe it is better when you add essential oils? The rubbing alcohol idea might work as well. How much of each are you using?

I did notice I could purchase the Watkins spray in bulk off Amazon but depending on the seller and the scent there was sometimes a crazy markup so I figured an alternative might not be the worst idea

Have you ever tried making your own? There are TONS of instructions out there. I use a mix of water/rubbing alcohol/Dawn dish soap/essential oils (for scent) on our granite, and a mix of water/vinegar/Dawn/essential oils for our floors. I think they both work well, and I know exactly what ingredients I'm exposing us to...and as a bonus, it's WAY cheaper.

I draw the line in the bathroom though. 😷 Toilets and sinks get the real deal. Haha.

ETA I've gotten JR Watkins hand soap on Amazon...but have never searched for their all purpose cleaners. May be worth a look!

I have been using JR Watkins cleaning spray forever but Target just stopped carrying it so I either have to find an alternative or a different way of obtaining it. I love that it was somewhat on the natural side and the scents were more natural smelling so they didn't bother my sensitive nose. I know everyone loves Mrs. Meyers but I just can't hack their scents. We also tried Method which actually cleaned better than the Watkins spray but the scent lingered for HOURS and got annoying. Any recommendations for more natural smelling/ less chemical sprays?
