Very extroverted. He definitely gets his energy from social interactions. Sometimes when we are pulling in our neighborhood he cries, " I don't wanna go home!!" He'd always rather be out, playing with others.

He's definitely an extrovert. He might be a (little bit) slow to warm up to someone new (like D's great aunt this past week...he hung back clinging D's leg for about 5 minutes) but he's very friendly with pretty much everyone. He loves to talk to people at the store, he'll try to hold pretty much anyone's hand, and we've never had a problem with seperation anxiety...the first time we left with him strangers (to him), they told us he whined for all of like 2 minutes, and then his attitude was more like "okay, new family!".

It actually makes me a little nervous how social he is with strangers...he doesn't get "stranger danger" yet, and I think it would be very easy for him to just walk off with someone.

DS is an extrovert. When we take him to the park he will find random kids to play with, no shyness there. DD is more happy watching on the sidelines on our lap, but when people come up to her she smiles up a storm and will interact with them. So maybe she will end-up being an extrovert too. DH is very much an introvert and I am a mix of both.

My son loves to be around people, adults especially. And dogs that run around.

I notice that his behaviour is much better when we're in a group rather than when we're one on one at home.

My son is an introvert like me. He's 10 months and I can already see it. He's social and has fun with new people, but then hits a wall from overstimulation and starts wailing inconsolably and the only thing that will calm him down is quiet time (nap time). After a stimulating visit he will almost always need an early nap where he usually sleeps for a while and then quietly play with his lovey in the dark. And then when you go get him after nap time he's completely happy and recharged.

Can't blame him. I'm a social non-shy introvert who has always dreaded group settings where I don't know people and have always gravitated towards having a few close friends. I always loved books and quiet pursuits like cooking or taking drives and I when I do have to spend time with large groups and lots of people, I need extra sleep and downtime afterwards to recover.

I'm glad we figured it out early because we know how to help him when he hits a wall. These days everything in school and society seems to push extroversion and the need to work in group settings and being an outgoing people person, so I want to be able to help my son develop social skills that are appropriate for social and professional settings but honor his natural inclinations and help him find activities and educational settings that respect those needs.

LO#1 I would have described as reserved, but I think she is actually introverted. She does not do well in big groups - she will actually climb into her stroller and demand to be taken home, lol. I have shifted around her schedule for more one on one time and small groups for her formal activities, and she is a lot more comfortable with that. She is 2. LO#2 is only 3 months, but she is a lot more open to other people than LO#1 was at the same age.

@Mrs. Carrot: so funny because I call my DH a shy extrovert! He takes a little to warm up but he thrives being around people! He gets really bummed when he doesn't have friends to spend time with!

DD is a version of DH's shy extrovert. She takes a little warm up and assess the situation but other than that, she loves being around people and involving people in her adventures. She has an independent streak but she definitely is recharged by other people just like me.

So far Ruby leans both ways so I'm curious to see how she goes. My husband is a big time extrovert and I'm a big time introvert. Though @Mrs. Bee, shyness is not usually a sign of introversion so Olive could still be an introvert even if she's not shy. I'm not at all shy but I'm very introverted because being around people exhausts me.

Lo is only 15 months but she's an extrovert so far! She says hi and bye to everyone in our elevator (apt building) and waves to people on the street. Her daycare teachers have told me they think she's going to be the class clown as she gets older :silly: Dh and I are pretty quiet but I'm glad she's so outgoing!

Both kids (14 months) seem to be extroverts. They love being center of attention, will run up to anyone and give hugs. At story time they wander around and sit next to other kids, instead of sticking with me or each other. They really get energized by being with a group of family or friends. Also Blake is a huge clown and likes to entertain everyone. This is probably the only way that the kids are more like me than DH. I'm an extrovert and DH is an introvert, albeit a pretty social one!

DS is 100% extrovert, to the point where it freaks me out. He says hello or hi to every single person we pass in the store and tries to speak to EVERYONE.

DH is an extrovert, and I am on the borderline though I'd tend to say more introverted.

SO and I are introverts.
DD seems to be an extrovert. She loves people and will talk to almost everyone. It's kinda scary but. I was at that age too.
DS seems to be an introvert. He won't leave my side around new people. If someone he doesn't know talks to him he often cries until they go away. It takes him a longggggggggg time to warm up to new places and people! Two months after starting to work and he still wasn't used to the babysitters house.

I think my son leans more extrovert, he's 4.5. He strikes up conversations with (adult) strangers, is very chatty and does well in most social situations.

I'm not sure about my 19 mo daughter yet. She is very very shy, but once she has had some time to scope people out and assess the situation, she is usually ok if mama is in sight. My son was like this though until about 2 yo, so you never know.

My daughter is an introvert like her parents, but she's very outgoing and has high needs for socialization. When we're on break from preschool her behavior really deteriorates because she's just not getting the time with other people that she needs. But when that need is met, she's happy as a clam, and always happy to come home and quietly recharge on her own.

My LO is only 13 mo so it is possible she'll change, but as it stands she is very introverted. You can tell that new situations make her nervous and she is very cautious about new situations/new places/new people. It always takes her a long time to warm up and she usually clings to me for like 20 min or so before jumping in and playing.

However, my second is much more independent than my first. She's even more of an independent sleeper and eater than her three year old sister.

My son is 100% an extrovert. He is three.

I think Charlie is definitely an extrovert. He loves being the class clown and lights up when he's around other people.

Olive I'm not so sure yet. She is very independent, but she's definitely not shy. I think she could go either way.

Both Mr. Bee and I are introverts. We can fake extrovert, but we always need alone time to recharge when we socialize.

Can you tell if your LO is an introvert/extrovert? What about you and your SO?
