My current living situation can hardly support one child. It'll be adequate when we have a baby, but we'll have to move when he/she starts getting bigger.

(we could potentially use the basement of our home for more space, but moving is a more likely option for us).

No. We have 1 bedroom, which DS shares with us, and an office. I could convert the office into a bedroom, but then I would have no place to work from.

We have a 2br/1b apartment, and I think we can easily have 2 kids or even wrap up with the 3rd before we'd have to move. However, I grew up in a house with 2 adults and 4 kids and only 2 bedrooms, so I definitely don't feel the need for each kiddo to have their own room right away. When we buy a home, it won't necessarily have 4+ bedrooms unless it happens to work out that way.

Nope...we're going to have to move soon after this kid comes. The third bedroom is my craft room and I have no where else to put that stuff. I'm already having to compact it enough as it is.

We technically only have 2 bedrooms and the current plan is for the kids to share after baby2 is born and has some sort of decent sleep pattern. We could possibly switch some rooms around and have 3 bedrooms, but I like our current configuration.

We have plenty of room for a third child although we're not planning to go there! It's a 3 br/4 bath and 3500 sq ft...

But, I grew up in a 3/2 with 1500 sq ft and four kids until I was 13. We didn't feel squished or anything, though we did play outside a lot :)

We're a 3 bedroom 1.5 bath with nearly no storage...so it could, but would lose office and book storage plus one of the bedrooms is in an awkward location. It's work though.

Yep! But I think I'm, in the minority because I see a lot of people on here with bigger homes saying they can't accommodate another. I think it's all how you look at it. DH and I want 4-6 kids and we don't plan to move. We live in a 900sq ft 3 bedroom home (with no attic or basement). If when we get to that point I plan to build triple bunks on 2 of the walls in the big bedroom and use the smaller room as a playroom (it's the nursery now). We have one child and are working on #2 now!

Urk. I hope so. Sweetie and I don't have any kids yet -- we just got a bigger place with the idea of having room for kids and not scrambling with housing once I'm preggers or with a new baby...

...but now sweetie is insisting that the spare bedroom become his office/alone time room and I'm afraid it'll be difficult for him to give up when it is needed as a baby room. I'd been hoping/planning for it to be a guest room.

So, now we have no guest room and I'm anticipating drama when sweetie has to give up the space.

We have a 2bd 2ba 1500sf apt and our first baby is on the way. Our living room is L-shaped, so if we needed a third bedroom we could put up a wall to make another room. Or if the kids were close in age then they could share the second bedroom for awhile,

I'm going to be losing my office for this baby's nursery-- we have a 3 bedroom apartment but the rooms are tiny tiny tiny-- ie our bedroom is the biggest one and ONLY fits a queen sized bed, no other furniture. Dh and I both work at home and have our own rooms w our dressers plus desks. The good thing is we have a very large living room/dining room area so I will combine my office with that. We will have to pare down our clothes and other things we have space to make it all fit though! I actually really like working in the dining room already-- so much morning sunlight-- but losing my storage space will be hard

We have a 4 bedroom house and can definitely accommodate LO2 on the way. Tonight DH and I discussed how we would like the two boys to share a room, which opens up two more rooms. So I guess we could accommodate up to 4 kids. DH says we can have another set of kids share and bunk up. Haha. I can't imagine 5 kids. Pretty sure I'm done with 2.

Our house is 760 square feet. We were talking that through a lot this week because X needed to transition to a toddler bed. (Do we get a bunk bed and X sleeps on the bottom bunk, with plans to move to the top with another? Can we fit this particular bed model with a crib in his room? etc.) Right now, I think it's tight but we're all happy.

Can we fit another? Yeah, we think we can-- even with the nearly twin size bed we picked out for X. Eventually, if/when LO #2 comes along, what we'll do is keep X in his room, move the 2 of us into our large living room (treating it like a studio apartment for us parents), put potential LO #2 in our room until they sleep through the night, and then move both kids into 1 room once both are sleeping decently. It'll be tight, but by the time kiddo #2 is 2 years old, I will have graduated and (God willing), we'll be in a financial position where we can afford a bigger house. So-- less than 800sq ft for a family of 4 + a dog == totally do-able.

Maybe if we finished our basement? We have a 2 bedroom, 1 bath, 1050 sf house, so it would be pretty tight as things stand - but we are thinking about a second, and have no plans to move, so we'll have to figure something out!

Oh gosh no, it barely fits all of us now! We have a 1700 sq ft. 3bd/2ba. Luckily we're renting though. Right now the three girls share a room, the two older ones are only here every other weekend though. Our oldest son has his own room, and the baby will be in our room until we move. We really need 2300+ sq ft. 4-5bd/2.5ba to make this work!

@mrs. bird: oh yes it definitely was enough space for us once my dad finished the basement and added the extra two bedrooms (otherwise it was half the amount of space). I just find that in general people think its a small space, and too many kids! But it worked for us. And most of us did grow up close :)

@Mrs. Pen: 2,000sq ft is a decent sized house! one bathroom would be hard though i imagine! i had my own bathroom as a teenager, guess i'm spoiled & have a hard time sharing. i'm more in awe of DH's aunt because when 4 of the 8 in the 900sq ft are adults, there are... needs... to be met  and privacy needed for such activities. also i can't imagine having other adults in our space all the time for DH & i to have a healthy relationship- even private conversations would be a challenge! i bet being tight on space made you guys really close as kids though
