Yes, he can, both doors. But at night the alarm is on and the car will be in the garage.

We also have a foscam in the garage so he wouldn't be able to get the car out...I hope.

@StbHisMrs: There are bolt locks for sliders that work at the top of the doorframe. My parents had them at my childhood home.

LO is too small to get to our door but I know she will get there sooner than we think! We use an in-home any are and her solution in addition to the deadbolt was to flip the door handle (as opposed to a knob) so you list it up instead of pushing it down. The toddlers definitely can't lift and pull it at the same time to open it.

One of mine can. We don't need to lock our doors, but we often do to deter any unwanted door activity (it's really tight an she can't unlock it). I'm worried about my back door and the pool as well, but that door is really tough for them (for now).

No, the dead bolt lock is still too high for her.

No LOs yet, but I found my neighbours kids out in the rain splashing in a puddle because they learned how to open the door. Their poor mom was so worried by the time I got them home!

My aunt had a very high latch that my cousins couldn't reach that she always had locked.

Technically, no. We live in a split so our front door is blocked by a gate & a set of steps.

Chloe has opened the door at my parents house so we have to be careful to always keep their doors locked. They have an alarm system & once she opened their front door while I was in the bathroom. Thankfully the alarm system went off & alerted me that the front door had opened!

Dang. Dd hasn't figured it out yet. The bolt is out of her reach, but if she stood in her mini piano bench she could open it.
She steps on the bench to grab things off the island and turn lights on/off..

Yes, we have childproofed all the doors leading outside, except the sliding glass door, not sure how to do that one. She can unlock and open all doors at 23 months old.

In one of the houses we moved into when I was growing theey had installed door alarms that dinged everytime it was opened. I want those!

that is such a scary story!

My LO is still under 2 but would open the door if she could. For now the deadbolt is too high for her to reach but we will have to get ready as she gets taller!

We recently put a childproof cover on the knob. Before that we sometimes locked it (it's hard to unlock) because our 2yo would occasionally open it. Scary stuff.

I read this tragic story a few days ago about an eight year old who sneaked out and took a joyride in his parent's car:

<< Wednesday night was like any other for the young family: The children’s mother gave them a bath and tucked them in bed around 9:30 before turning in half an hour later, police said.

But the children’s grandmother drove by the family’s central Phoenix apartment, noticed the front door was open and called to alert her daughter, police said.

The mother awoke to find her children missing, and began knocking on neighbors’ doors, searching for the kids. She noticed her car — a 2010 red Hyundai Elantra — was gone and called police to report a possible kidnapping, Martos said.

The children, meanwhile, were on an apparent joyride around town. >>

http://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow/la-na-nn-phoenix-car-accident-girl-died-20130830,0,4772502.story

Then today, Charlie saw me open the locked front door at Bee's mom house... and immediately copied me! I had always thought of locks as a way to keep people out... I guess you also need a way to keep kids in. But what if there's a fire and you've childproofed your front door?? I guess nothing beats talking things through with your kids...

Anyway, back to the original question. Can your LO open your front door?
