@Mrs. Bee: I was actually discussing this just the other day with a friend who is studying speech therapy. She explained that it isn't that a child doesn't hear his mispronunciation, the problem is he is still incapable of making those two consonant sounds together. When he repeats he's trying to say it right, he just can't yet. I imagine my daughter will call herself Awice until she gets the l sound down.

Her nickname has 2 L's and she's always been able to pronounce it. Looking at pp's comments, I guess it is usually hard for toddlers?

Ben's name is simple so yes :) but he pronounces his sisters name "El-wee" for Elly. Oh and F's and still sounding like P's (a letter in our last name).

L is really hard for my LO. I think it will be her last letter.

DD can pronounce her full name (which does have an "L"), but she doesn't identify as her full name; when she's referencing herself, she uses her nickname (which doesn't have an "L").

When I call Charlie "Char-ree" like how he pronounces it, he says, "No it's Char-ree." Then I say, "Char-ree?" And he says, " No it's Char-ree!"

Finally I reply, "Oh Charlie!" And he says, "Yah."

He can't hear that he pronounces it wrong. :)

Can your LO pronounce their name? Does it have an L in it?
