@Maysprout: She's just crawling to crawl. They have a big mirror because it's in a gym so a lot of the time she'll go over there and look at herself. I just feel weird about it because we go there for a music class and she pays no attention to that. If she just wants to crawl around we can do that at home.

@Honeybee: I would love to be able to sit in the back, but we do a semi circle so everybody can see us as we crawl out of the circle, lol.

oh man, Liv is 14 months and I doubt she'd sit in my lap. She loves to be out and about exploring everything she can. In the grocery store she insists on walking and inspecting the shelves and everything. Most times she listens to "hold mama's/dada's hand" but after a few minutes she yanks it away and wants to be alone for a bit. Its a handful but we love her little independent personality.

DD has never been happy just sitting on my lap until recently (she's 27 months, now). At 14 months, she wanted to be up exploring at storytime!

I think it's a good sign she's so independent and confident! If you can, sit in the back so she has more room to explore. That way she doesn't interrupt the rest of the kids, but I think it's totally normal at that age to not to want to sit and participate for stretches of time.

My 12.5 month old recently started insisting on getting up to walk around during meal times at day care. Before this he sat nicely at the table in a little chair and concentrated on his food. I think he is just getting more curious and hates to be confined.

@artbee: Is she crawling to play with other lil ones or just crawling to crawl? If she's crawling to a lil one I'd just move where I was sitting and let the babies say Hi to each other, if she just likes crawling is there like an outskirts where she can crawl. I remember you said she's just learning to walk so she probably is especially determined right now.

@Maysprout: Those things don't work for me. If I give her a toy, she'll just crawl away with it!

There's usually lots of squiggling kids when we go to our library class. LO doesn't love sitting still but I usually have a toy in my purse I can distract her with or if she was looking at a book I bring that with me for her to sit with on my lap, when she was younger she liked to crumple paper so that always worked, and if those dont work I just start whispering to her look and pointing at whoever's leading the class or another baby being silly and that usually distracts her for a bit.

Hmmm. I know my LO at 14 months LOVES to sit in my lap. Daycare has really helped teach her the command "sit on your bum". Its so cute because at snack time they eat but they each have to sit on the floor.

We go to mommy and me classes and the teacher will always say, "it's time to sit in the lap of whoever brought you!" and all of the other kids will go and sit on their moms or grandma's laps. Granted most of the kids are older, but there are a few around LO's age (14 months) and they just sit there and behave. Meanwhile my LO is crawling around the room and refuses to sit still. If I try to sit her on my lap she cries. It's embarrassing! I feel like she's a baby and this is normal behavior, until I see that my baby is the only one behaving like this.
