Yep. DH has put her to bed every night (unless he's out of town, of course) since she was about 4 months old. Around that time, we started giving her a bottle of pumped milk before bed because she slept better that way.

Now that she's 13 months old, they have a hilarious routine where he plops her in the bed and hands her her blanket and then about five stuffed animals, announcing each one: "Here's Teddy, here's Piggy, etc..." and she grabs them for a squeeze and then just tips over and goes to sleep when he leaves the room. It's adorable!

Not really because I nurse her right beforehand. Not quite to sleep but halfway there. He can get her to fall back asleep though when she inevitably wakes up a couple hours later - that is a new development though so I'll take it!

I'm sure he could do it though if I were gone (and he has a couple of times) but those occasions are rare.

Yes. He does older DS every night and both every Wednesday which is my night to get out of the house solo and do something fun.

ETA: I started working nights when LO2 was 4 months old. So he had to do both. That really got him up to speed!

He rarely did for dd1, but since the arrival of dd2, he's done it every night. I really think it's helped their relationship (dd1 is a strict mama's girl)! Dd2 is only 10 weeks, so for now, it's me due to nursing.

Yep, we usually trade off since bedtime has become a hassle lately. No matter which one of us does it, there's always crying though because Xander's trying to delay bedtime as long as possible. Neither of us have issues putting the baby down though!

He actually does bedtime almost all the time. DD goes down pretty easy, though, so we've never had any trouble with either one of us OR anyone putting her down, as long as the routine is followed.

Not really. He's only done it a handful of times and it hasn't gone very well. He's a big part of the routine when he's home, but nursing/songs/snuggling is the last thing we do before she goes in the crib and so its just been easier for me to do it. Plus, I'm always home and he often works late. She's 11 months and I'm not sure it'll change much until I stop nursing.

Not 100% solo since she likes to nurse before bed. But sometimes I nurse her and then hand her off to him and he does the whole bedtime routine from that point on. He is totally capable of the non-lactational bedtime stuff.

If it were necessary, he probably *could* put her down with a bottle instead of nursing, but I just normally make sure to get home before her bedtime.

Wow, I didn't realize I was so in the minority! I think will we work on him being able to put her down. For now I don't mind doing it (in fact, I love it because she's all sweet and cuddly), but I'm sure there will come a time when it's much harder and I'll want to trade off!

Oh absolutely! I would go nucking futs if we didn't alternate nights. After spending the day with them, I appreciate the break. Not that we don't get the mini fits for mommy preference, but negotiating with the little terrorists over bedtime is wearing. The nice thing is that on the few nights a week I work, they are perfectly fine with him.

The 3.5 year old, sure. D works a flexible out second shift so he's almost never home for bedtime, but when he is we do it together. Some things change if he does it on his own...he has his own books to read, for instance.

The 8 wk old gets nursed to sleep, though.

Yes, we take turns because we didn't want him to get too used to one of us always doing it. It works with both of our schedules so it's fine. Sometimes he'll request one of us but that happens more for naps for some reason and we don't mind since it's not all the time.

We almost always do bedtime together, and the rare time that we don't it's because he's stuck at work or on the train so I do it myself. I don't think my husband has done solo-bedtime in over a year, and probably only twice in his life. We had a close call a few weeks ago when I got stuck in Labour & Delivery for monitoring, but I got myself home just in time for stories and even that threw my son off - I had to sit in his room and hold his hand because he was crying that he wanted to see me (unusual). We're actually going back and forth on this right now because I'm going to have to spend at least one night in the hospital for #2, and we're debating whether it's better to have my husband leave the hospital and go home to do dinner/bath/bedtime so at least he has one of us or whether it's better to have my parents do the whole thing so everything is weird and hopefully he doesn't think too much about where I am.

The toddler yes- she would prefer me but once they are in the room it's fine. When he is home he does it more often since I usually have to nurse the baby or make our dinner.

The baby, not yet. She's only 8 weeks and we either nurse to sleep, or nurse until very drowsy and rock to sleep. So he can do that last rocking part but we have never put her to sleep without nursing right before bed. I want her as full as possible so we get a good stretch of sleep!
