They're a Polish pastry, kind of like a jelly donut but...different. Usually custard filled. I find them to be gross, but everyone else around here loves them.</p> <p>And as a Catholic raised girl, it's a tradition because Lent starts tomorrow, so today is basically when everyone pigs out. It's aka Pancake Tuesday or Shrove Tuesday. I'm not sure why it's pancakes and not some other sort of pre-Lenten food, but I don't complain! We always had pancakes at school when I was growing up and a lot of churches host pancake lunches and dinners. It's the best!
