It has black sand beaches, which I'd never seen before. We stayed at the southern part of the island and it was pretty laid back, though it could be more developed by now. Honestly, I don't remember the food, but I'm not a big foodie. We took a day cruise around the island and that was awesome-- saw tons of dolphins. There's a place called Loro Parque that has animals and stuff. Also there was a neat little orchid garden that was beautiful and relaxing. There's also hiking to the top of the volcano, but we didn't do it. We stayed in a pretty basic hotel. I seem to recall that the food places nearby were pretty good and the weather was lovely. There wasn't a lot to do or see if I remember rightly, nothing natural or "local" - it was all bars and shops selling dodgy watches and perfume.... but if its sunshine and relaxation you want, it will do that for you. Do you recommend it?</p> <p>Spring's not coming fast enough so DH has brought up next winter's vacation plans (Feb). Because it not that far of a trip, we're considering the Canaries. I'd love to hear about your experience! </p>
