@Bluemasonjar: I managed to get my engagement ring off with ice water and soap and lots of cursing. My finger was wayyy to irritated and swollen after that so I had to wait a few days to try the wedding band..... which is a hair smaller and refuses to come off. My husband insisted on trying floss/Teflon tape which didn't work and just pissed me off. Gonna try the overnight gauze method this week... but if that doesn't work... I think it's going to have to stay or get cut off.

@PurplePumps: Any luck?

I took my rings off as soon as I noticed they were getting a little harder to remove at night (I never sleep in mine). Been wearing a ring that was my from my Grandmother's costume jewelry collection that fits a little looser and would be easier to remove if needed. Good luck!

@peaches1038: omg, yes, the floss definitely dug in. We were trying to think of something thicker to try with too. That looks interesting! I may have to try that this weekend of the ice and soap doesn't work tonight.

I’m a PT who specializes in lymphedema aka swelling and I would not recommend the floss trick. That looks SO PAINFUL. It’s so thin that it digs in too much. I would recommend getting a roll of gauze, folding it over in half and then rolling it back up and wrapping it around you finger overnight. Not so tight that it cuts off circulation, but still snug. The swelling should be reduced in the morning. Here’s a video that shows you how. I would go ahead and wrap all the fingers for the best results but you could try just the ring finger. Make sure you wrap all the way to the base of the finger over the ring. Good luck!

No dice yesterday. My husband tried with floss, but I don't think he wrapped it enough, (it wasn't solid wrap so a lot of my finger was still just bulging out of it.) Then he tried to twist it off despite me telling him it wouldn't work thinking the floss did enough (without any lotion or oil or anything!!! UGH).. which obviously didn't work. Gonna try again with ice then lots of soap or something. If that doesn't work, maybe back to trying the floss.

I agree definitely get them off. I personally swelled a lot in the last month of my first two pregnancies even though it was winter. Also agree with trying all those tricks in the morning! Although sometimes my hands would be so stiff from carpal tunnel upon waking, so if you feel that in the am I would try a day you can lie down and stay off your feet for a few hours, still early in the day though.

@PurplePumps: wait til you're the least swollen. Try to maybe hold off on water or sodium for a few hours if you're desperate. Then try something greasy on the finger- Oil (coconut or even butter) is the only way I've been able to get tight rings off. Good luck!!

I’d try to get them off ASAP and leave them off. I took them off around 30 weeks with my first and wore them on a necklace. I had swelling during pregnancy and swelled a lot after my csection. If ice your hand or soak it in cold water for a while and then pour some olive oil or vegetable oil all over your finger and wiggle them off. That has worked for me.

I would definitely try to get them off- even if you don't swell more between now and the end of pregnancy (which is pretty common), any fluids you might get during labor and delivery could make you puffier too...

I would do everything you can to get them off now. I took mine off around 32 weeks and I'm so glad I did. My fingers continued to swell until delivery, and the swelling was so bad during labor and then subsequent c-section that had I not taken them off, they would have been cut off.

I went through 2 pregnancies without taking off my rings and I tried EVERYTHING (windex, soap, string trick, literally everything) and eventually had to cut them off and I ended up doing a new set lol. Def don't wait if you can somehow get them off now! My knuckles just got bigger so it was impossible to take them off.

I pretty much was not able to wear my rings for my entire pregnancy and a year afterwards. The swelling was ridiculous for me! It's actually been pretty bad ever since I moved to the South. The heat really makes it worse.
I would recommend trying to get them off at a time when you're not stressed and usually at your least swollen, and NOT the morning after you've had a salty meal. Then soak your hand in ice-cold water, then try all of the tricks above. Maybe even take a cool shower to get your core temp down.
My fingers still swell when it's hot out. I ended up having my rings resized when my DS turned one because I was so sick of waiting to wear my rings comfortably!

If you have them cut off by the jeweler, you can talk about having them resized permanently.

@Sams Mom: Thanks for the tip about going to the jewelers! I think it might really come down to that. Maybe I'll be able to get a new setting if end up having to cut it haha

@LCTBQE: I didn't think I'd gotten THAT much puffier, but I guess I have! I'm pretty sure the rings are a solid 1.5-2 sizes too small right now based on the largest part of my finger. Ive gained about 21 lbs so far, pretty much all belly, but I guess the slight swelling just goes everywhere.

@PurplePumps: I don't know how carpal tunnel will affect it, but in terms of straight pregnancy, I personally haven't gained much weight or gotten more swollen from about 32 weeks until now (38 weeks)--I've only gained about 3 pounds since then, and don't really expect to gain more than another pound or so (which I hope will just be baby). Same deal last pregnancy for me. I think this is one of those things that you have to judge for yourself as only you know how your weight gain has been and how puffy you are and how uncomfortable the rings are. If you want to give it another good try, I'd soak your left hand in ice water for a few minutes, then dry it off and lift it up above your body for a minute, put some body lotion on your finger and try to wiggle the rings off one at a time. That is what worked for me last time--the cold really helped de-puff my finger. PS awesome that you're 32.5!!

I had my rings wedged on far longer than I should have also... But what worked for me was cold water, soap, and if you push up on the bottom side of the ring while pulling it off after soaping it up and holding it under cold water it should come off. If that does not work, they might have to cut it off, but I would recommend going to your jeweler for that instead of letting the hospital do it because they don't care about anything but getting it off.

My mom had to have hers cut off, but the doctor told her that if she didn't get it cut off between now and her next appointment in a week, he was going to cut it off. She ended up having her brother who is a machinist take it off, and it was able to be repaired.
