I think I was both harder and easier. I missed her so much but I wasn't crying all day, like I thought I would be. Some days are still harder then others but you do what you have to do. On the hard days I think about how good day care has been for her.

Thank you! I feel a little better about going back now :)

@katsupgirl: I ended up starting my maternity leave earlier than planned because of how awful my superiors were being. Could have been fueled by preggo hormones, but it's definitely part of why I'm dreading going back. Those are some good silver linings though. I do tend to forget what it's like to eat a meal with both hands free!

@lemondrop: im glad to hear that you're less stressed at work being PT. I hope that's the case for me, and since its only a few says a week, it should be easier to leave work at work!

It's hard to leave them regardless of PT or FT. I always have to drag myself away from him, even a year and a half later. It's gotten easier, but is never easy. Be sure to give yourself a lot of extra time in the morning, I always felt in a huge rush- especially when I was nursing and pumping.

I love working part-time, I'm so much happier not being full-time, I care about work a lot less and the things that used to drive me crazy aren't as important anymore. I do like having grown-up days, and I appreciate my baby days even more so- I do my best to make plans and try to make the most of our fun time to keep life and work separate.

I went back last week. It hasn't been nearly as bad as I imagined. I'm so busy at work I don't have time to worry. It's nice to talk to people about non-baby things and be able to pee in peace.

I'm really trying to make the most of the post daycare time. Yesterday we went to the park and today we had a dance party. I hope to keep that hour just for her.

I don't work but I do go to grad school and do practicum, so I'm not always home with lo. I actually like it; it's "me" time. Then again, I didn't start getting any "me" time til lo was already like 7 months...

It's not so bad- and you might realize you welcome the adult interaction and the opportunity to take a break from the endless cycle of diapers, feedings, crying and repeat! ;)
It's not easy but it does get better- I don't LOVE my job, but after being back for 8 months now, it's not so bad.

Not a fan of my job. They madero completely miserable before I went on maternity leave. I was totally dreading going back. I totally get what you mean about leaving your baby for something that's just a job.

It was definitely hard. I cried the first two days. It got better. I tried to focus on the positives. Eating a meal with two hands and not having to rush. Seeing colleagues I liked. That helped but I still miss DD.

I was sad when I walked out of the daycare, but once I got back in the office I was fine. It went a lot better than i thought. I work 30 hrs/week - 3 long days and it works out pretty well. I think I'd go a little stir crazy if I was home everyday. This way I get to have adult conversation some days and then when i'm home, i really savor every minute I have with my LO. I plan all kinds of fun activities for my days off. Best of luck!

Well, we made it 11 weeks and now I have to go back to work. :( I always imagined that I'd be a SAHM like my mom was but sadly that is not the case. Luckily, I'm only going back part time. I'm aware that I shouldn't be whining, but I can't help it. I hate the thought of leaving my sweet girl for something as mundane as a part time job. *cue melodramatic sigh* Maybe if I was going back to a career that I loved it would be different? Maybe I should have started mentally preparing for this sooner....

Please tell me about your first day back after mat leave. Was it easier or harder than you thought it would be? Bonus points if you went back to a job you disliked ;)
