I wouldn't worry about it, for my second pregnancy I gained a total of 12 lbs (and had a 8 lb baby) that means I lost weight during my pregnancy and that's probably happening to you.

As long as your bump is growing (1 in = week of pregnancy) then you have nothing to worry about. It's better for you! I already lost my pre-pregnancy weight and more! :)

Many people lose weight in the first trimester; most people will catch up later on, and still gain the recommended amount.

If you don't, however, it doesn't necessarily mean anything bad for your baby. With DD I gave birth at about 8 pounds over my prepregnancy weight; with DS I gave birth at about 12 pounds over my prepregnancy weight. Both kids were normal-sized and very healthy. Weight, by itself, is an imperfect indicator of a healthy pregnancy.

I didn't start putting on weight until 16 weeks and even then I only put on one pound between week 16 and week 19 (I was lucky enough not to suffer from any MS).

Now that I'm just past 23 weeks I've finally started putting on weight at a steady pace (I'm now up about 6 lb's).

I say that as long as your OB or midwife is happy with your progress then you're good to go!

I lost 5 lbs during my 1st trimester. After that I started gaining at a normal rate, even though I was still experiencing a lot of nausea. My understanding is that it's ok to lose a little weight during the 1st trimester, b/c the baby doesn't need very many calories yet.

I was in the exact same situation. I was down about 3lbs at around 14 weeks and my doctor advised me to try to eat more protein, which was still really hard at the time since I had little appetite still. At about 15 weeks, though, I started to gain and am now up about 6-7 lbs from my my first appointment. As long as you're eating something, you should be OK and will probably begin to see a gain in the next few weeks or so.

Good luck!

At my 24? week appt I was +7, and I too had lost weight at 11 weeks. At 12 weeks my morning sickness went away and then at about 15 weeks I started getting really hungry! Don't worry too much yet, especially if your doctor hasn't said anything. :)

I'm 23 weeks and I've lost 15lbs... haven't put any on so far. My doc is totally cool with it... only b/c I was overweight before. I keep thinking I'm going to start gaining, but no such luck yet.

I just want to add I just had a Dr's appt and I'm 16 weeks. I'm currently down 2 pounds from pre-pregnancy. I wasn't overweight to begin with and was given the normal range of 25-35lbs to gain during the pregnancy. I asked my doc if she was concerned about my weight and she said absolutely not. She said there is no such thing as a malnurished pregnancy in the United States and even if I only gained 10lbs the whole pregnancy it would be fine as long as I'm eating fruits and veggies and lean protein (which I am and I'm sure you are too).

I lost a lot during the first trimester, and didn't get back up to my weight at my first appointment until 28-29 weeks. I'm just now starting to put on weight.

Don't stress out about it. If your practitioner is worried, s/he'll talk to you about it. Mine told me that most women don't really start putting on weight until the second trimester.

I didn't gain any weight during my first tri during both of my pregnancies. My OB said it happens, especially if you're experiencing nausea. Dont' worry, you'll catch up in no time when your appetite some soaring back in your 2nd trimester!!

I'm 15w and have only gained a couple of pounds while coping with moderate morning sickness.

Losing weight or not gaining a lot in the first trimester is totally normal! Your body only needs a little bit of extra food to account for the baby, and it's become more efficient at drawing nutrients out anyway. Real weight gain happens in the second and third trimesters.

Yup, don't worry about it. I lost 5 lbs too in the first trimester and am up about 4lbs from pre preg weight at 19w3d. Baby is perfectly fine. Just try to eat what you can and the baby will get what it needs.

I'm 11 weeks and I haven't gained any weight. In fact, I lost weight before my doctor put me on Zofran for morning sickness. I'm down almost 5lbs from my prepregnancy weight. Did any of you have this problem? I'm eating as much as I can without making myself feel sick, but apparently it's not enough. Any suggestions?
