@MaisyMay: That's exactly what our midwife told us when I was stressing about waking up on my back....she said when I was in a not-great for me or baby position for too long it would move on it's own.

Sometime in the third trimester I could only sleep with a pillow between my knees, under my belly, and my comforter bunched up behind my back, and I still would wake up on my back. I couldn't fall asleep on my back, though...more than a few minutes and it would start to hurt.

Your body knows what it's doing, and FWIW, MW also told us that sleeping in a non-optimal position will affect YOU far sooner than it will affect baby, and you will almost always wake up and/or move into a different position before it starts to affect you.

I'm more comfortable on my right side. I would love to lay on my back but I get paranoid when I do!

I've had more than one nurse/doc tell me that I should sleep however is comfortable. If you sleep in a way that isn't good for you, your body will wake you up and you'll move. I am 28 weeks and still sleep mostly on my stomache some nights, on my back on others.

Ditto not being able to sleep on the left. Baby is on the left and squirming (I've never once felt him on the right)

I bought the wedge that @highwire: suggested and am sleeping a little better. I fall asleep on my right side but wake up on my back.

I can't sleep on my right side. Same thing, baby's head is near my right hip and he/she has the hands up by the face so whenever I lay on my right side I get punched in the hip until I roll over. My doctor told me not to worry about sleeping on my back. If blood flow becomes and issue your body will make you wake up and roll over. Obviously I want this baby to keep cooking until it's done but I am sooooo looking forward to being able to get comfortable again!

Can you sleep on your right side? I didn't have a body pillow, so I stuck a folded-up towel between my knees. I usually ended up partially leaning back, but I had horrible pain when I slept completely on my back.

I was always more comfortable on my right side, and still would end up waking up on my back. Everything I read said that if something was wrong my body would be uncomfortable and know to turn over, and that was fine.

We really need to make a list of all of the exact same pregnancy symptoms we have shared. LO is a total squirmer when I lay on my left side!! I have a little wedge pillow that I use, though, which helps. But lately I've just been sleeping on my right side a lot more.

LO's is def head down and his head is near by left side! Everytime I lay on my left side, I can feel him squirming!

I still end up on my back (34.5 wks) and never invested in a body pillow!

Anyone else not able to sleep on their sides?
