I love my CRV too. If we have another kid, we'll need a bigger vehicle. But that's several years out and we're undecided about having a 2nd kid. We have 2 dogs (one 45 and one 80 pound) so they take up a lot of room too.

@Sugar.Biscuit: have you thought about leasing?
We just got a great lease deal on a Mazda CX-5 and I know they are also doing a lot of deals on the CX-7's since they will be discontinued.
I never thought we would be able to afford a new SUV but by leasing we were able to. By the time the 3 year lease is up, we should be making more $$ and be able to buy something.

PS I love my Mazda CX-5 hot mom car!

He is weird about buying stuff. He looks at the price not so much the quality of the purchase. Oh the joys of major purchases as a somewhat newly married couple (2 years).

@thehistoryofus He sat in 15 different SUV's tonight and the only one he was really comfy in was the 2004 Toyota Sienna XLE FWD Passenger Van, Second place was a beat up Mercury Mountaineer. That won't keep us from looking though! We have time to shop, I just hate that in the mean time he will continue to suffer.

I would think that you could find plenty of SUVs in that price range so if you aren't happy with the murano then get something else!

We paid $10 for my Volvo XC90

Well ladies it was a no go on the murano. DH was NOT comfortable in it & I was in love with it. DH was comfy in a 2004 Toyota something or other mini van. It was the top of the line in 04 with ALL the bells and whistles you could imagine. However I was not sold on it. It has 10,000 more miles on it then our Malibu and was 2 years older. I feel like we would just be wasting our money.

My "hot mom car" right now is totally a mini-van! I've got the soccer mom fever and the only cure is a fully loaded Honda Odyssey!

@tororojo: That's what I want to get too! I test drove one a month or so ago and it was pretty nice! I loved how easy it was to get in and out, the sliding doors are awesome. It's definately not as roomy as full-size minivans, but I love that its NOT a minivan. I call it a "sport wagon" :)

It drives really well, although a little bit loud over bumps. Super easy to park.

@Sugar.Biscuit: My "hot mom car" is a Ford Edge Limited AWD. And it's actually probably a granny car... because whenever I see another, it's always an older couple driving. But I LOVE the massive sunroof, headed seats and the roominess!

I don't know if it's a HOT mom car, but when we do get a bigger vehicle I want a Mazda5. It has sliding doors like a minivan but doesn't look quite so van-ish and will seat up to 6. Also it gets good gas mileage and is supposed to drive and park more like a car. I haven't test driven one but I really like them!

Right now we have a small car and small SUV and I can't see the appeal of a 5-seater SUV as a mom vehicle...what's the advantage over a car? I want sliding doors and more seats!

That is the question we are faced with this evening. DH has a horrible back & we have not be able to travel much or far due to his discomfort during travels. Weekend trips to the store take him down easily so after 3 years & a failed spinal fusion, we have finally decided to start looking into a small SUV. We currently own a 06 Malibu with 125,000 miles on it and have found a 06 nissan murano with 71,000 miles for $15,000. Honestly I want the CX9, I've called that my "hot mom car" for years but that just isn't an option right now.

The Murano has all bells and whistles but most important are the leather seats (encase we have kids), and BOTH front seats are power adjustable. Which is something that was important to DH. The deal breaker will be whether or not DH can stand to ride in it for an extended period of time.

Now the kicker in this all is that we just refinanced our home and the $200/mo we are saving on payments (that was suppose to go towards home improvements) will go towards the car. That means I have to deal with our ugly concrete floors for a few more months to a year.

Now would you give up your carpet for your DH's comfort? J/K!!!
What is your "hot mom car" and why do you love it so much? If you haven't gotten your "hot mom car" yet what is it that you want?
