We do our best not to be in the car during nap time. He usually sleeps around 2 hours in the afternoon, so it's not much of a sacrifice to go in the morning or after his nap to do things. I'd much rather have him eat on the run than nap on the run.

We also live 15 mins from town and sometimes still struggle with him staying awake late morning. Even a 2 min car nap will mean no nap the rest of the day. Snacks and singing and interesting toys help early morning. As we approach nap time I give him my iPhone and he watches videos of himself or his cousins and that always keeps him awake. We do go out every morning for activities but I try to be home by 1130 and I try to do longer errands after nap time.

We plan it so as not to be in the car when approaching nap time. But if it gets close we just take away her paci because she won't fall asleep without that.

definitely snacks and Daniel Tiger on the phone if I'm desperate (that has only failed me once when we were stuck in bad traffic after nap time). I'm also going to switch her to forward facing soon and I hope that helps too (she's almost 2.5). we are moving and will be driving more and it scares me that we'll ruin tons of naps.

I'd go out first thing in the morning or after the nap. I HATE having to keep my son awake in the car! I know for sure videos would keep him awake but we don't have anything set up for that. We also play with the windows when he's falling asleep.

He's recently fallen asleep in the car before his nap and once we get home he gets ~30-45 minutes to play and goes down easily.

i give her something she's not usually playing with to hold for the ride home: a water bottle, an empty coffee mug, bubbles we just bought, etc. that usually keeps her occupied enough to not fall asleep!

I'm so thankful that LO will transfer if she falls asleep in the car! Whenever I want her to stay awake, we give snacks, talk a lot, pass books to her, or let her watch a video.

If there are 2 of us, I sit in the back and talk to her so she doesn't fall asleep. Otherwise we sing and I talk to her constantly making sure he has to answer me. I give snacks and milk/water, pretty much anything to keep her awake!

No genius ideas here - but I always bring a snack in the car if we're going to be out right before her nap time. I like to fill the munchkin snack catchers with something that's a little tricky for her to get out so it takes her a long time to eat and usually keeps her awake. If all else fails I sing crazy songs with her or even reach reach one hand back at a red light to scratch her head or tickle her feet or open the windows. I try as hard as I can to keep her awake!

We don't ride in cars too often but when we do, we usually give the kids a video in the car seat so that they don't fall asleep!

My son always falls asleep in the car while we are running errands. Unfortunately we live in a small town and we have to drive to the next larger town to do a lot of the errands so it is unavoidable that we will be in the car for more than 20 minutes at least once or twice a week. I'm at a loss for what to do to maintain his nap schedule when we go out to do errands.
The other part of this is it if I don't get him out of the house he tends to get really fussy and doesn't have a chance to burn off energy so then he doesn't go down easy for a nap either!

Does anybody have any suggestions? He ideally would nap 1-2 hours once a day.
