I actually keep nothing in my car, which I’m now rethinking after reading this thread. I keep a lot of stuff in a back pack that’s usually with me, but i never have a change of clothes or blanket or towel or anything like that once we’re out of the spit up/blow out stage. I imagine that will come back to bite me some day.

@DesertDreams88: These look perfect! I had the Skip Hop one but it just didn't work for the same reasons you stated.

@brownepiano: Most of this stuff I use on a daily basis, and other stuff is for emergencies (i.e., have to pick up the kids because they got sick). I have actually pared down a lot! We actually have dedicated car toys (small stuffed animals). We would only have one per kid but according to DD you can't separate Daniel Tiger and Katerina. :silly:

@catgirl: Yikes! I didn't know that about the air bag sensors being affected like that. I will check my owner manual!

I wanted to add, to curb the toys each boy is allowed to get one toy for the car, but only after they are ready to go (shoes, coat etc.). They are supposed to bring it back in the house afterward and anything else they wanted (water bottle, hat...).

When DD was rear facing I had a collapsible tote on the floorboard behind her seat. I was so bummed when she turned forward facing and I had to move it. I moved the tote to my truck and used a bungee cord to hold it to one side so it doesn't move around. The tote holds: a first aid kit, paper towels, and a full size towel. There was a lot more in it when she was little, but I limited it to what could fit in the tote. I keep tissues and hand sanitizer in the center console up front with me.

Then like someone else said we have basically a "go bag" in the house that we grab whenever we leave. Because it comes inside every time it is always based on current needs. Either DH or I can grab it and put it in either car. This time of year it has: change of clothes for all of us, sunscreen, bug spray, wipes, and extra sunglasses for DD. I add a coat, snacks, and water bottles in the morning if we will need them. We don't really bring toys regularly only for long drives.

In winter the blanket goes in her seat if she is not in the car and on her if she is. I also have an extra collapsible tote in my trunk if there is more stuff that needs to be contained.

I would be careful of hanging seat organizers on the back of the front seats. In newer cars most front seats have airbag sensors that can be messed with by hanging anything on the seats.

I have a van and in the trunk we have a trunk oraganizer with a bag that holds:
-extra clothes for 3 kids (shirt, pants, and underwear, and light cardigan or jacket)
-extra diapers and wipes in a clutch
-several ziplock bag
-and a picnic mat.
These we never take out of car and is for emergency use only.

then I have a fabric small basket with a reinforced bottom that doesn’t tip over on the floor of van and it holds all the Knickknacks. Everyone’s toys, some socks, anything that I don’t want on floor, whatever junk kids bring in car. This basket gets cleaned out a lot.

My oldest (almost7) sits in the third row of van. And she has her own kick mat in front of her with all her books, journal, and pencil case. She likes drawing and journaling.

It’s not perfect but everything isn’t on the floor

Some of that stuff I'd keep in a go bag in the house, like water bottles, sunscreen, wipes, snack. Those all fit in a really lightweight backpack that we keep in the house and just grab when we go. Wipes dry out in a hot car anyway.

In my car there are two compartments in the trunk that hold a seasonal change of clothes and a stock of plastic cups. Toys float around the back seat but I regularly have the kids bring one back into the car. Blankets stay in the house and only go in the car in the winter.

We have a fabric bin in the trunk that holds:
- paper towels & cleaner (we have a puker)
- a "diaper bag" that contains wipes, diapers, clothes and a few water wows and snacks just in case
- a first aid kit with bandaids, wipes, ointment etc.
- some plastic bags (for puke or wet clothes)

I keep hand sanitzer in the center console and bring snacks on a day to day basis in my giant purse that usually also has toys, sunscreen and too much crap in it. There are also usually water bottles in each kids cup holders. I try to be good about bringing those in and washing them too. Blankets are only in the car in the winter.

I always feel like I have so much stuff in the car! I do try to keep it seasonal - like I don’t let them keep blankets in the car in the summer and then I can put away the picnic and water play supplies once it gets colder.

I’m a huge fan of zipper pouches to organize inside a big bag. I’ve found some cute ones in the target dollar spot! My purse is this way (in lieu of diaper bag) and it works in a structured tote or bin in the car also. I would keep the sunscreen in the wet bag, keep the wipes and hand sanitizer with the diapers ... basically just try to keep together the stuff likely to be used at the same time. Then you can just grab a zipper bag and go vs digging. I also now have a bag of random baby stuff (bib, placemat, hats, etc) so it’s just a lot of junk :silly:

@Ms. RV: that’s a lot of stuff! I just have two pop up fabric totes in the trunk with some toys (but mostly outdoor park stuff, like chalk and bubbles) and one for cleaning supplies, incl. wipes, tissues, etc. and my kids keep some books in the back seat with them.

I love these:
Kick Mat Auto Seat Back... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N4N4AGC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

The pockets are big enough -most other similar products have like 9 pockets, but all so small, so not everything fits. More mental work.

Our 4 pockets are: clothing, snacks, little toys, and cleaning (tissues/wipes/sanitizer)

We have one for each kid, one behind the driver and one behind the passenger.

Also, at the foot of each kid, we have a box of books. Usually they are they books we own that I DON'T like to read or ones with lots of pictures to look at.

My car is a hot mess. It only has one seat pocket behind the passenger seat so stuff ends up in a pile on the backseat floor :bummed:

Here is the stuff I "need" to keep in my car:
- a blanket for each kid
- one or two small toys for each kid
- sunscreen
- my SSC
- activity book for DD
- diaper clutch
- wet bag with a change of clothes
- wipes
- hand sanitizer
- a couple of snacks just in case
- water bottle for each kid plus me

Anyone have any tips or specific organizers that would work? We'll be three across later this year so it will only get worse...
