Thanks everyone!
We pulled the car seat out of the box yesterday and it's a actually a lot more padded than I anticipated. The newborn insert is also really comfortable so not going to order anything extra any more.

My pediatrician also recommended not to get any accessories for the carseat because it can be more dangerous in an accident for your LO.

You might also want to check with your pediatrician or OB. We were told to not add anything to the carseat because it can affect the safety of the seat in an accident. Likewise, not to dress our LO in puffy snow suits in the winter. Car seats aren't tested with those comfy add-ons, so the company can't guarantee the seat will perform as expected in an accident. And our OB nurse said if we had one of the body support things in the car seat, they'd make us take it out before we can take the baby home from the hospital. To support the head, she said they recommend rolling a few receiving blankets up and arranging them around the baby's head for support (so nothing is between the baby's head and the car seat).
Our car seat inspector said strap covers are likely okay, but aren't necessary.

@regberadaisy: We had that carseat and it came with a newborn insert, which worked for us. LO was pretty big, 8 lbs 13 oz at birth so she didn't even need it for long. I think it just depends on your baby for how the trip will go. They sleep a lot when they're newborns so that's always good. Just plan on stopping more for feedings and diaper changes. Hopefully your LO loves the car!

@regberadaisy: We have the Graco Snugride 35, and it seems comfy enough. I think a 6-hour drive might be a bit difficult but if you're taking frequent breaks and letting LO stretch out a little bit in between, then it should be fine. Also, to avoid a flopping-around head, we just put a folded up hand towel on her shoulder and it helped prop her head up.

Thanks Ladies, that's what I thought too.

I have the Chicco Key Fit 30, is the seat soft enough? We'll be driving 2 hours to TO once when she's about 2 months then to NYC (6hours) when she's a little over 3 months. So I was worried about her comfort.

On a side note: is the 6 hour trip just a bad idea??? I didn't think anything of it until my mom brought it up yesterday.

I think I might get the head cradler, I'm afraid of her head flopping around even the KeyFit does have a head cradler thingie....

I agree that it seems warm. Especially if you plan on taking the seat out of the car and you'll be walking around outside.

Oh, definitely too warm for summer. The head cradler is a good option but it might still make her sweat. It absolutely depends on whether or not you have the AC on. We had the strap covers that helped cradle her head but even that sometimes made her sweat.

Hi ladies,
I want to get a head & body support for the infant car seat. But I'm worried it might be too warm for summer and make her sweat?

Will these be too warm for summer?

If not I was just going to get a head cradler.

Thanks! :)
