Increased safety and you don't run the risk of damaging it while it's checked. Ah!). We're going to take it on the plane and install it in her seat.</p> <p>If you're going to check, do it at the gate instead of at the counter. That minimizes the baggage handlers handling it and minimizes the risk of damage. But I guess car seats is appropriate. We are flying with our 2 year old in a month, he has been on a few flights but always as a lap baby. There seem to be all kinds of concessions for lap babies - you can check a car seat, gate check stroller, carry on extra bag for diaper bag. But I can't find anything about checking car seats for a paying passenger. We are still not decided about whether we will bring his car seat on the plane with us, but if not, will we be allowed to check it as an additional bag? We are flying Frontier and we each have one checked bag, I believe, but I'm afraid we will have to use them all. Thanks! </p>
