@misolee: We have used ours both RF sand FF and it’s definitely my favorite car seat in our family (we have a lot since extended family helps). I bought it for my husbands car several years ago and made him take our Maxi Cosi instead (awful car seat; he uses it once/week)I have heard it isn’t a great fit as a belt positioning booster. If you are going to pass it down someday it may not matter because it might expire before you use it in that mode (8 years in harness mode; 10 in booster).. Steer clear of Diono if you have a Subaru though as installation is a nightmare (it is super easy to install in a CRV, Accord, and Rouge though!).

The Diono Radian can rear face, forward face, turn into booster, and is relatively thin. We just got one after we FF so it works great. But can't speak to how it functions as a rear facing seat.

@Shantuck: There are multi mode seats that rear face, forward face, and turn in to a booster - but honestly they are rarely worth it. The booster function on most is generally not very long lasting. I would focus on a convertible seat for rear and forward facing.

The graco extend2fit is extremely compact front to back, the graco sequel/sequence is also relatively compact, as is the chicco nextfit, britax clicktight convertibles, and the nuna rava. (not sure what price point you were hoping for)

I’m no car seat expert but I think graco has some 3 in 1 seats that rf/ff/booster? I can’t speak to how good they are but in case you want to research ... I just made a post about hating extend2fit straps but supposed to be easier on bigger kids so maybe worth trying?

One example but I think there are others also
http://www.gracobaby.com/en-US/extend2fit-3in1-car-seat-103514

Also clicktight came to mind since you’re closer to the latch limit but they are pretty huge I think.

My daughter's car seat in my car recently expired and I need to purchase a new one. She is currently 33 pounds and rear facing (don't know her exact height but she is generally large for her age). I was initially hoping to find something that could convert from a car seat to a booster but it looks like none of those can be used as rear facing and I think she's supposed to be kept rear facing until she outgrows the seat's limits for rear facing (though I will say it is getting increasingly difficult to lift her into the rear facing seat at her size). Any recommendations for an easy to fasten seat and doesn't take up too much space? The seat needing to be replaced is the Maxi Cosi Pria 70 and I have hated it since day 1 when we purchased it for her big brother. As an adult woman, I feel like it is impossible to get tightened.
